Hey Nonic! Thanks for republishing this gem! I am continuously amazed at the insightful and inspirational material being written by our members and posted on these forums!! I just keep thinking that if I had not found the SSC, I might have already miserably failed in my quit, as I have done before!!! Thanks EVERYONE for being here when we need us!!! Congratulations on quitting smoking cigarettes, Fighter. Focus on your quit and drink lots of iced water. The advice given here already is exactly what you need to do to regain your clean air! Dear Fighter...and Alphabet J too! Welcome to SSC and congratulations on making one of the best decisions you'll ever make. Being tired and "spacey" are definitely normal reactions to booting all those chemicals out of your body! Keep the quits going strong, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/27/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,500 Amount Saved: $510.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 20 Mins: 46 Seconds: 42

Fighter: Here is a bit I wrote when I was at the start of my quest. I apologize in advance for publishing this again, but sadly I can not write another as I have already stepped in that river and anything I produced about the experience would not have the weight of authenticity...Perhaps it will help reassure you that you are not alone and that others have passed this way... I Set My Mind Against The Tide I set my mind against the tide, as a sailor sets a sail straight into a westward wind, that soon became a gale. The harbor lights were far behind, when the sky bled blue to gray. The chop was fine and coming fast and my boat began to sway. Broadside and true she took each wave and fell to meet the next. The troughs were deep the angles steep my thoughts were dark and vexed. And in that hour the taunting came, from deep within the storm. Derision scorn and vile blame, took endless ghostly form. Loathing lingered on the deck as doubt engulfed the mast. And from the east, a tiny speck flew toward me from the past. Larger loomed this bird of prey in silence loud and clear. With stealth and guile it ruled the day for this was cold dark fear. Fear stretched out a deadly claw and danced with doubt and scorn around the sail Id bravely set they mocked the oath Id sworn. The bitter wind grew stronger still as hopelessness appeared and played a mournful melody for doubt and scorn and fear. Come join the dance the storm intoned I know you know the steps. Ill bring you peace the wind exclaimed with one more cigarette. But just between the flash and fade the lightning wind and storm were all inventions I had made while I was busy being born. For I have lost a lover who would kill me where I stand but found a better friend in me cause I know who I am. I set my mind against the tide as a sailor sets a sail I set my mind against the tide As a sailor sets a sail.. I set my mind against the tide as a sailor sets a sail. Stay well, the journey will reveal many unseen rewards... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 458 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,740 Amount Saved: $4,809.00 Life Gained: Days: 85 Hrs: 8 Mins: 49 Seconds: 40

Fighter My fellow travelers have given you some wonderful advice. There is little that I can add except to thank you for joining us. Please do not feel alone and isolated in this, I assure you that you are neither. You have had an epiphany and now you are beginning to do the most difficult thing a human can do. That is to seek change. When we make the effort to do this, we are instantly confronted with the old and comfortable vs the new and unexpected. We come to this junction in the road initially in our minds and our imagination. A thing is never made manifest in the world unless in the first instance we begin to imagine the thing which we desire to come about. Now you are experienceing the physical side of that decision. Your body has become accostomed to the whack and buzz that cigarettes give us through our own physiology. The substance which creates this is in reality a poison. No one, if offered the option of poisoning oneself or not would logically accept the former. That is part of the addiction cycle. It is not logical, it is an addiction. Is it any wonder then, that when we begin to withdraw from the addiction our minds and bodies go through a period of confusion? This will subside as time passes and your knowledge and understanding of the addiction grow. This is a learning experience. And it can be painful, but I am here to tell you that any amount of pain is worth the attainment of the goal of cessation. Be kind to yourself in this. You are a beginning to confromt not only the addiction, but also yourself. The two are intertwined and slowly unbinding the tethers that bind you to the behavior will be an experience that will shine a light on bits and pieces of your good self that perhaps have not seen the light of day for a while. Go with it in the knowledge that you are making yourself better. In the mean time stay close to this site, without the benefit of this site I would not have managed to release myself from our shared prison. Stay well, you have made a wonderful decision... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 458 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,740 Amount Saved: $4,809.00 Life Gained: Days: 85 Hrs: 8 Mins: 47 Seconds: 15

Fighter, Congratulations on toughing it out and completing your first day smokefree. You may experience a few "strange" things early in your quit but it is the body readjusting to living life without the poisons that you have been ingesting through the dodgy habit of smoking! The early inconvenience is natural and a small price to pay for the long-term benefits that you will gain by staying quit. Stay strong and just keep on keeping on - you're going to love it! God Bless You ALL for your encouragement and kind words. I really appreciate the support. I felt much better after reading what you all had to say. I am doing everything I can to either stay a sleep or stay buisy. I just recently felt the most uncontrollable urge to smoke "just one last ciggarette," but I didn't give in! Instead I decided to see if anybody had any response to my earlier post. I thank you all very much for taking the time to care enough to return meaningful responses to me. This program is truly amazing ha?! Welcome to your first quit day! My first quit day, i felt like i was drugged, extremely weird feeling. I even phoned home from work cause i didn't think i would make it thru the day. Th second and third day were a little less "drugged feeling" just cravings like CRAZY. Hang on tight, it's not fun, be ready for mood swings like crazy. Let your body and mind get lots of extra rest whenever you can, keep your mind and body busy during your awake times to keep the evil thoughts of smoking out of your head and come here often to post, to get the help and support that you need. Read the tools and resources, it will help you to prepare for your quit. STAY STRONG and don't smoke - NO MATTER WHAT! Hi Fighter! I just wanted to say it is my first day too, and I feel like you described. I also feel "buzzed" and a little dizzy. I think that is from extra oxygen? I don't know, but I sure feel good not smoking! How bout you?
