Phases of Quitting! A must Read!

Thanks so much for this post Lainey. I found it very helpful and useful in understanding how I feel about smoking. I can see from all the other posts that the stages can be quite a process and that it is easy to go from one to the other and then back again. I honestly was thinking that I was in the acceptance stage in my non smoking quest as it has gotten easier but I am now aware that it is possible to slip back into any other stage. This has allowed me to ensure that I am prepared for anything that comes up in the future. I see the advantages of being a non smoker already and love my life, but can imagine how easy it is to slip and possibly fall. This has opened my eyes and ensured that I am aware that I really do have to take a lot of care in remaining a non smoker. Thanks for the post, I am sure it will help me in my future as a non smoker. Great post, Lainey!! Thank you so much!! It is good to hear that the phase I am in now, depression phase, is a good thing. I have progressed. I am well past the bargaining phase. I believe I'm bouncing back and forth between bargaining and acceptance. The dream I had last night really shook me up. I had a smoking dream for the first time since the early weeks. I was smoking while asking myself why I'm doing it. It was like dealing with the cell phone company, you may as well beat your head against the wall because you'll get farther and that's just the way it is (anger/frustration). Needless to say I was relieved to find it was only a dream. Still smoke free!!!

Great post, Lainey. I have seen the phases of grief before & I know they have also been applied to marriage break-up but I never thought about them in the context of quitting before.
