Grin, it might be that you don't know what to do with your extra energy. I know you said you've been keeping busy, but you might want to try a structured exercise plan, something that will show you results and allow you to continue challenging yourself. Maybe a regular walking plan with an eye toward building up to running, or join a gym. If you already exercise regularly, try adding a new activity or ramp it up. If none of that is your bag, maybe look for an opportunity to volunteer, or take a class. At this point, your quit is not as exciting as it was when it was new, it's strong & you don't have to think about it every minute. So, if you aren't filling your time & using up your energy with smoking, & not doing that with your quit either, of course you're going to feel a little restless. Grin That is a very big question...Yes I too felt restless and uncertain with regard to understanding that sense of missing something. When I first encountered that state of what I called "unspecific longing", I was well beyond the physical addiction and deeply involved in the mental/emotional part of the addiction...(I always think of the addiction being made up of those very distict sections). Here is what I finally figured out for me. And mind you now this may not be true for you, but it might give you a jumping off point. I used cigarettes to self-medicate. So when did I need to be medicated? In the first instance that would be when I was lonely. In the old days (smoking days), I would ease my melencoly (spelling) by staring at the night sky and smoking and smoking and smoking...Sounds pretty silly to write that, but I am a bit of a silly fellow at heart...In any case thats what I did...Some how by trying to bring the entire universe (visible) into my range of site and choking down a whole lot of marlboros I just lost all that lonliness in the vastness of what is...Well I don't do that any more since it dosen't work so well without the nicotine rush...I used cigarettes to ease alot of emotional turmoil over time. But now I just don't do that anymore. I don't like to presume to say that I understand completly what you are feeling, that would be like saying I know how it feels to be you. That would be an absurdity. However, I will tell you that from my experience, quitting conjures up a sense of loss in us. And you may well be experienceing a type of grieving. A grief for that which at one time gave you a sence of security against the time when you where lonely or tired or lost in some way or other. Its kind of pitiful to say, but cigarettes where a companion to me and now that companion is gone. It is only natural that we might feel a certain unspecific sense of loss, even though the loss is actually the greatest gain we will ever have in our lives. It might just be that you are feeling that loss now... Hi SSC Friends! I was wondering if any of you at the 4 to 5 month mark had anything like what I am experiencing now. I am happy to say that I am at 136 smoke-free wonderful days. Up until just about 2 weeks ago, my cravings and urges have been reasonable. On a scale of 1 to 10, I topped out at 4 and have usually been 1 to 0. But, as I said, over the last 2 weeks, I have been experiencing what I will call a restlessness. I am anxious, kind of like I have a thirst that I can't quite quench, or an itch I can't scratch. It is like something is missing and I keep thinking that it was smoking that once filled this void that I am feeling now. It is not strong enough for me to go back to smoking or to go back on medication (I quit with Chantix and stopped taking it over 10 weeks ago) but, it is annoying enough for me to ask "what's up with that?". I have been very good at keeping myself busy and keeping myself up to my ears in rewards (so my husband claims!!) I just would like to enjoy my new found freedom of nicotine and not feel like something is missing. :quest: thanks for any help you can give me!!I really could use it!
