Cold Turkey

Hi Ron,

Welcome to the SSC and our little part of the internet.

My wife and I both quit cold turkey. We just decided that we found something that we wanted more than wasting $300 a month on smoking.

She smoked for 30 years, and I did for 35 years.

Congratulations on your decision to quit, stay close and  post often. We're all here to help.

Goofy.....also Ron

different strokes for different folks i guess.

i used the patch because i thought it helped me make a commitment , you know , go spend 40 dollars and you dang sure want it to work.but after 3 weeks i went patchless and have not had even 1 puff.

i had cravings with the patch , i've had it without the patch. in the end , it's the committment that matters.

peer pressure helped me a lot , i did not want to let anyone on this board down.

now i realize that if i smoked  , folks here would just help pick me up , they won't be let down. but that mindset helped.

good luck , we're here for you.

Hello and welcome.  I personally did not use any replacements.  I went cold turkey.  I also read the Alan Carr book and it made a lot of sense to me.  I think it helped get my MIND ready to quit.  Regardless of how you quit....just quit...know that you can do it and you will be so happy once you do!

Best of luck to you!

I see many people using nicotine replacements to quit smoking. I just read Allen Carr's book and he recommends not not use any substitutes, and that quitting on willpower alone sets you up for failure. Has anyone used this method to stop smoking. A lot of what he says makes sense to me but I am wondering if others found it as easy as he states in his book. It seems to me that the patches are just delaying the inevitable and the sooner you get the drug out of your system the better. Trying to decide which course of action to take.
Thanks,
Ron
