Thanks! Well, I saw I've saved almost $30 from 1 week (dang thats alot). So as soon as I leave my house this morning for work, I'm going to stop and get my $30 and figure out what the heck I want to do for a reward. I read somewhere where someone saved every penny they would've spent on smokes and went on a nice vacation. I might do that next time so I can have a large 6 month and even larger 1 year. Anyways, thanks agian

My Quit Date: 7/3/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 140 Amount Saved: $29.75 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 50 Seconds: 14
Kasi, you asked for some reward suggestions and I went back to my quit journal and found this.
Reward list:
new walking shoes and socks
pedometer
walkman
a day trip to the coast
dinner with Suzanne W.
lunch with Susanne H.
Rallyburger with cheese combo
I need to systemize my rewards rather than reward myself impulsively.
Every day:
I will reward myself everyday with 30 specific minutes of ME time. Even though I spend a lot of time alone and a lot of it can be considered “me” time, this 30 minutes will be deliberate reward time, not just sitting at the computer or in front of the television time. To qualify, it can be:
• 30 minutes of walk time (which can be divided in two)
• 30 minutes of meditation, listening to music, relaxation.
• 30 minutes of reading something uplifting and inspirational.
• 30 minutes of journal work.
• Or 30 minutes of any combination of the above.
Every week:
• A visit to a store that is pleasant, such as Crystal Connection, Pier One, Pelican Place, etc.
• A longer walk in a different place.
• A lunch or dinner out (not at the cafeteria!)
Kasi, the actual creation of this reward list was a great help to me to focus on the positive aspects of my quit. Hope it gives you some ideas!

I agree with Jim this is no mean task to give up the smokes so do reward yourself, treat yourself to somthing nice
unlike Jim I did have a terrible cough before I qut. I did notice the cough stoped very quickly when I stopped smoking
But every now and again I get a spell of coughing it might last a couple of days I guss it's just my lungs clearing out. I do know people who have been quit for years and they never coughed.
On another note Jim it's good to see you I see your meter is clocking up 126 days great!

By all means..... REWARD YOURSELF!!! Especially after milestones!! The first few days, like maybe up to 30, do something to reward yourself for your good behavior!!! It may make all the difference to you in your quit!! At first I didn't think anything about it, but it really DOES make a difference!!! Remember, you don't have the nico-demon signalling the brain to produce the feel-good dopamine! You have to do something nice for yourself to get the dopamine fix that you DESERVE!!!!
As for the coughing, I had smoked since my early teens. I never did have a coughing problem before I quit or after. Every now and then I do have a dry cough and wonder what that's all about, but like Blue Cloud said, we're all different! Maybe you're similar to me and won't have that problem!!!
AND..... CONGRATULATIONS on your decision to quit and nearly making it through HELL WEEK!!!! Remember to keep a positive mental attitude and you will be successful!!!
Jim

first of all congrats on the almost a week, that is great. Yes, reward yourself. even if it is a special tea or coffee. just knowing you are doing something good for yourself is a reward. And you ARE doing something good for yourself.
About the coughing...everyone is different. If your not coughing much maybe your lungs were not that bad. Hopefully that is the case.
I have just over a year and I sure don't miss that coughing. It was terrible for me in the mornings. Not now. Keep up the good work. You will be so glad you did.
Love your waterfall!

Well, one week is just a few hours away and I need some guidance on this reward thing. I went through the workbook before I started my quit and well, I honestly laughed when it mentioned giving rewards for milestones etc because I honestly thought I would never reach one week (especially after giving up my very first quit with one puff so easily). Heck I've already saved over $20 in 6 days, which really shocked me when I saw my stats from another post. Almost have a tank of gas saved (smiling here).
Ok, another question. I've read people will cough and cough, honestly I coughed (and not continuously) like the first two days of my quit, but not much since. Does this mean my lungs aren't clearing out? Or am I just way ahead of the "usual" pattern for people that quit and I should welcome it when I get to that stage? I've read some posts here about people really really hacking and that just isn't happening to me.
Anyways, I will post tomorrow on my making it through hell week!! I still cant believe it but here were are (almost).
