Hey Evie, no matter how stressful your life is right now, smoking is NOT going to make that better! We had to learn that the hard way, smoking does not make anything better or easier, it will just make you feel worse for giving in. Worst times for me are when bad things happen. Today I think is the worst day for me I feel too tired of trying. I know my smoking will not help one bit but living in Greece isn't easy these days. Although the fires (half of the country is a total mess) are nowhere near my home and family I am exhausted of watching the news as they are trying to figure out how many people are dead and how many forrests are gone. The air even in Athens is unbearable. The smoke and smell of fire is a constant reminder of death and all most of us want to do is let go and dispair. How did we let it get that far?? Anyway, any tips on really exhausting desparate times???? Pen, top drawer question there! The biggest threat to my quit is boredom. The amount of times I have got bored and smoked is unreal. I combat this by keeping active on the most stupid of things and as many different things as possible. As long as I can do that, I am keeping away the sole biggest danger to my quit. p.s. I didn't realise that was Colin Firth, and I also thought the other picture was Jack from 24! I'm no good with faces or teams :) To resemble Colin Firth ain't bad btw! Hey Janna, You didn't! Fear of weight gain is a very real threat to some and knowing how to deal with it and maintain your quit is just the kind of answer I was looking for. I'll be interested to see how it plays out for you but I reckon you will stay quit and in time, lose any pounds that you may think are excessive. Thanks for the responses. I guess my idea behind the thread was to build a little collection of personal experiences that would benefit all quitters but particularly the newer quitters amongst us. And yes Martha, it is indeed the menacing Mr Firth who I am told has more than a passing resemblance to me. Good or bad? Janna, you're freakin' gorgeous & don't let anybody tell you different. If you were to smoke now, you would be a smoker with 15 extra pounds, it wouldn't help anything and if your butt is a little bigger, that will just make it easier for the junkie to kiss it next time she tries to give you a load of crap like that. I have gained some weight, too and I'm not happy about it. I have noticed lately though, that my exercise program is starting to show some results and I think my metabolism is getting normalized as well. That is very encouraging and I feel even better about my quit now that I have reason to believe my weight will stabilize. So hang in, be patient with yourself. You're already doing a hard thing. (Sorry a little off thread-topic there). Penitent: I have been having a rough time of it lately - I have gained 15 pounds since I quit, which is a lot in a short amount of time. The junkie has been jumping on my shoulder at least once a day telling me if I smoked I would drop the weight back off. I actually had a conversation with the junkie the other day. I told him well I might be fat, but not dead. He told me at least I would look good in my coffin. (Okay Unhooked, who is the wackjob now?) I am ashamed to say it, but I am really having a hard time of it right now. I post with a thread on here - the daily diet - which is helping a bit, but the junkie is really using this one on me. I have my new fat picture posted on here now to help me combat any further weight gain. At the beginning I was really disgusted by the idea of smoking. I felt tightness in my lung followed by nausea ... ... now when it happens I just wonder ... then sheepishly shake my head and say to myself [i]it will pass[/i]!
