Hello ron

From the very first post that you wrote I had this gut feeling that you would succeed.   Congrats on knocking down 1 month.

Hi Bonnie and all the fellow quitters, this is an item I found on my computer it;s from Allen Carr's Book  I keep it handy for bad moments it just might help!

Allen Carr’s Easyway to STOP SMOKING

Just Remember

Any impression of pleasure or relief is just the temporary suppression of withdrawal pangs.

A cigarette doesn’t relieve withdrawal pangs, it causes them.

Every smoker is a chain smoker, because every cigarette creates a hunger for the next one.

Smoking a cigarette was just a way of feeding your addiction to nicotine.

You have a nicotine feeding parasite inside you. If you refuse to feed it, it will die.

There is no such thing as just one cigarette; it’s a lifetime chain of filth and misery.

You broke the chain when you put out that last cigarette.

You are not giving up anything worth having.

You are getting rid of the worst disease you will suffer.

Every smoker you know envies you. Every smoker on Earth would love to achieve what

you have achieved - FREEDOM

Hi ,, I came on line.. never thought about meetings,  but I am a voluunteer on line for a stroke suport group.. so I guess I looked on line for support...LOL

We live 17 miles from town,, and since my stroke... I don't seem to be very "structured" for meetings, and somtimes I have "trouble"  in groups if too much is going on..

Any how ... we are very glad you are part of the group here.  I think the Allen Carr book hit some ... spots or thinking with me.  I'm sure it is not for everyone.. but maybe seeing some of it in print.. and take what helps and leave the rest.

You are doing it, and what helps you or works for you.. is the right way..  You will have days you don't even think about smokng.. you will have some days with a few thoughts.. and hopefully not many rough days.

did hit some days.... before "milestones" that I had craves, got a bit moody, emotional, etc.. but I cme here and read and I keep seeing NOPE... and I see my meter.. and I saw great quitters.. who lost their quits....

I remember the first 30 days.. and I said  hell I DO NOT want to repeat those days... It is so much better now, and the craves don't last long now... and I want to see the quit meter continue up up up...

It also means a lot to know you are all as close as a note on the board if I need help.

Congrats ... say strong and focused .. and stay and keep your posiive attitude..

Bonnie

Thanks Theresa and all of you out there for your support-- it feels great to have made it a month! It really makes a difference to have everyone helping each other out like what happens around here. I'm kind of surprised how it all has turned out.

The day I signed up for SSC I also called two studies in my area that were having people take the nicotine patch with other drugs and or devices like biofeedback mechanisms. I also went to a nicotine anonymous group in my area at the same time.  But after reading this site and reading Carr's book I got so into quitting I just started up my quit within days of signing up. In the meantime the people doing the studies called me back to get me to sign up for their studies. I told them great I'll do it but then the conversation came up that I had to register a high amount of nicotine in my system to qualify. I told them I had stopped smoking 4 days ago thanks to SSC and they said sorry you are now considered a non smoker.  Whatever you are doing keep it up. You would have to start smoking again to qualify. Do you really want to do that???

Back to the nicotine anonymous meeting. Everyone there was quit for years which was great but I felt a little alone. The people who showed up who were smokers or just starting to quit just talked about how they were not able to just stop.  They would start with Hi my name is XYZ and I'm a nicotine addict.  The group is not suppose to interact but just to listen to each other, so it really felt like if someone was crazy in their thinking you could not tell them so.  Anyway the energy level has been so different from here where there is a dynamic group of people some newer quitters some older all working together to help each other out and having that interaction back and forth. And I know it works because I've seen many people quitting and getting it done.  I finally realized that is was this site and Carr's book that has made my quit real and lasting. And believe me I don't think my cold turkey quit would have had a chance with out both of them.

Anyway I just wanted to say thanks to all who have helped me in the last month answering my questions and supporting me in my craving nicotine moments.  We all can do this working together and It so great to see many of us successfully doing just that.

Month #2 here we come,
Ron
