Sparky, I think that is the one of the best posts I have ever read here. Especially for a newbie. I really respect your truth and honesty. xo Sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 238 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,380 Amount Saved: $416.50 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 16 Mins: 3 Seconds: 50

Sparky, this is a beautiful post and many will thank you for it. Honesty, willingness and open mind are key to being successful. I think that's why I had such an emotional quit, because quitting means we really have to examine ourselves, and who the heck wants to do that? And even with three years under my belt, I still have to remember HOW. I have to be honest that I am an addict and can never smoke again. I have to have an open mind to know that I am no better or worse than anyone else and willingness to listen to what others have to say without judgement. Thank you for telling me HOW! H.O.W. The H.O.W. of my quit. I am using this acronym from my 12-step program and it works just fine with my quit. My signature is H.A.L.T. Dont get to hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. I use that constantly. But I also use H.O.W. H. = Honesty. Honesty was and still is a journey for me. When I first came here I honestly thought I was ready to quit. Then came the boredom of the quit, the thrill of look at what I am doing. It just became a struggle. It was easier to smoke than fight the craves. What I lacked was the courage and the education of what quitting was all about. I quit several times and each time I honestly wanted to quit, but I never wanted to really quit for me. I hated the word addict. I mean I really HATED it!!! I had to get honest with what I was and am and always will be I am addicted to cigarettes and for me to stay quit I am never to have one puff ever. In the past I would smoke one or half of one and go on for a while and then pretty soon I would smoke again and then again and then I was back to smoking. I honestly know today than I can never have that one puff again. O. = Open Mind I had to have an open mind to what people were telling me. I was not unique when it came to my quit. There was nothing I was going though that others hadnt gone though before me. I had to have an open mind in order to hear those helpful words. When one has an open mind many wonderful suggestions can filter their way into the mind and soul. W. = Willingness. Willingness is the key to a quit. I had to be willing to hear. I had to be willing to follow suggestions. I had to be willing to go though withdrawal. I had to be willing to listen to my doctor. I had to be willing to trust and move forward each day with the commitment to stay smoke free. I know we are going to have several new people coming to this site shortly. I hope this can be of some help to them and to you my fellow quitters. Keep the Quit Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 241 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,410 Amount Saved: $361.50 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 11 Mins: 51 Seconds: 8
