Thank you all for the well wishes and congratulations. I do not often post, but I read the forum every day. I need to. I think people kid themselves if they think they can do this without support. You guys are my support, even if I don't always have a lot to say, I am reading, I am learning.
This is my 7th quit, or something close to it...I have only once before made it to 50 days, so this is a special one. My reward is that each day, when my 17 month old boy Jake comes home, I can run around with him, harder, faster, and with ease. My reward is knowing that my little boy will never know me as a smoker. My reward is inhaled with each precious breath I take, cleaner, longer, smoother.
My quick tips to newcomers, are as follows:
1 ) Keep talking to yourself. When you see someone smoking, instead of thinking, you would love a smoke, say out loud, "I am not a smoker, I will not smoke, it's not something I do, why? cause I'm not a smoker". As silly as it sounds, I say this mantra about 10 times a day...funny, cause your brain starts believing it.
2 ) When you see people smoking, quietly pity them. Let your heart actually feel compassion for them. I feel that letting my heart work in this manner, actually helps stiffen my resolve.
3 ) Water, of course...plenty of ice water...
4 ) Less coffee....
5 ) Long walks...
Good luck all, keep the quit!!
Thanks again,
Jeff
