Wow thanks you guys :) No slouches here, there are some great celebrations coming up in the queue I can see...
To answer your q Ashley, when I first quit I felt like crap! Fearful, sick, angry, you name it, I was a wreck. This site and the people here kept me going and I'm proud to come back and share my celebrations when they come!
I've rattled on about the emotional changes I've had but here's a particularly proud moment...
Had two separate car rentals on our trip (didn't think we needed one for the end three days but changed our minds, couldn't get the original extended). The first contract said to return the car with the tank emptied, but we ended up giving over a half tank of gas. The guy who checked us in marked it correctly on the slip and I commented to him that we were comping them a free half tank of gas. No comment of course, no refund, etc. and I went about my business, back into the office to get the second car.
Didn't pay careful attention to the contract but this one said bring it back full - I'd assumed it would be identical to the first and lo and behold we came back with another half tank three days later. Same guy checks us in.
Guy says: 'you were supposed to come back with a full tank, I'm going to have to charge you'
Me: '(sigh) great. how much is it a gallon?'
Guy: '$7.95'
Here's the winner. Here's the 1000 days quit pay out, here's the voice I found when I lost the smokes...
Me: 'I brought back the other car to you three days ago with half the tank still full, so you got a free half tank from me already.'
Guy: (waiting to see where this is going)
Me: 'So wouldn't it be fair to credit me that half tank against this one and call it even?'
I nearly applauded myself I was so proud I was able to do this. The guy hemmed and hawed then says 'well I can't do that, you'll have to speak to the manager'. I say 'yes please, can you get the manager.'
She comes over, we chat for about ten seconds and the slate wiped clean. Fifty points Todash!
I never thought I had it in me, only it just couldn't get out past the big blue cloud. Never the same. Never again.
Love to you all.
