Is it OK to use nicotine replacement therapy? I am experiencing depression and my doctor has prescribed Wellbutrin and Nicotrol Inhaler. Has any one else used this inhaler? Thanks, Red

great thread. Sully, I'm with ya there on that situation. I used to do the exact same just to deal with NOT dealing with someone else's words or a confrontation. It was just easier and better to go have a smoke and 'calm down'. And you're right. Now we have to control our tongues and it's challenging at times, but anything worth having is challenging. Red, I'm guessing that you've been to other sites that completely berate people who use NRT? Try to keep in mind that those people have an agenda, and whatever is best for Red is what Red should do. If you don't use a NRT, the nicotine is suposed to be all out of your system in 3 days. I do beleive that NRTS would have drug out withdrawals in me longer than they needed to be drug out, but every person is different, and every quit is different. What does your gut tell you? "Sully, I didn't even recognize myself for a while after I quit. I guess it's because we no longer have that cloud of smoke to hide behind ...but once we get to know ourselves again by working through all the different situations... and know that we're fully functional without cigarettes, then the result can only be that we're better, stronger people for it... " Wow.. I don't even know what to say. Very inspirational and frightening concept all at the same time! Very true, and I guess that i had considered this concept on a small level, but it all kind of clicked when i read your words. I think that I was under the impression that the smoke would be lifted and the new me would emerge. Never considered it would be a long process that i had to learn and grow through. This is very interseting and something I was just figuring out myself. When I think about that - and how long I might still be thinking about cigs/smoking, I try and think of my sister. She had brest cancer a few years back and in the middle of her heavy treatment, she said thinking "cancer" all the time was driving her nuts more than anything. So she made up her mind she was NOT going to have those thoughts and to work hard to push them away until one night as she climbed into bed, it suddenly struck her that she hadn't thought about it all day. It was a milestone for her in her own mind. Figure if she can stop the rot thoughts, surely so can I?! S

thank you for your wise words. I quit four months ago and now realize that the cravings may take a year (4 seasons) and I keep saying "give it a year" My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 123 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,079 Amount Saved: $676.5 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 20 Mins: 4 Seconds: 22

MissyFit, Thank you for your post. I haven't smoked since June 17th so I think the nictine is out of my system, but there are so many time I really want to smoke. I did have 1 oops and smoked 3 puffs (My daughter got a summons to court--I smoked rather then yell. I realized I was being silly and put the cigarette out.) I have been trying to figure out what is going on and I think that when I smoked people left me alone --they let me have a break from whatever was going on. I used to use cigarettes to avoid confrontation. I would use the time smoking to plan my thoughts and responses. I am finding that when I am in a situation I have to control my mouth so that I don't get into senseless arguements. I find myself clenching my teeth and fists. (I am NOT a violent person! :) I just have a real hard time dealing with people/situations at times. Your post about pairings really makes sense to me. I teach special ed -grades 5 and 6-I hope I get through this rough patch before school starts up again. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.
