Brenda's right we all got here of our own accord...But the beautiful bit about it is that we can get to cessation land of own accord as well...Its like getting a second chance.  Hold on to that when the days get rough.  Try your best not to seek relief in the shade of the old tobacco plant.  There are much better shade trees available for you...Its a big garden...

stay well

Hi Brenda: You are so right. I got up even before I read this with that attitude and a better outlook. I know not every day will be perfect and easy. Some have actually been easier then yesterday and that keeps me going. Another day done and feeling better that I made it. Thanks. Hope.

Hi Hope. Unfortunately, quitting smoking isn't easy. After all, we got this way after years of practice. We're smoking experts. Try during less stressful times to plan how you will handle the next crave. It's next to impossible to develop new coping skills while we are in a crises. We tend to fall back on what we know. So develop your coping skills during down times. It take a while to develop a new lifestyle, but with each crave you resist will while get stronger and move toward a different, much better and healthier way of living--one day at a time. Recovery takes work and a great deal of patience. We're in it with you!

Hi all: I am fairly new to the forum. I am 16 days free and I was just starting to get the worst cravings and wonder how I will get through another weekend. I was wondering why it was so hard on day 16 but I guess the psychological aspect sticks for an extremely long time. Why can't it be just a little bit easier???? I have to get busy doing other things. Have agreat weekend.
Hope

Rock you must be mind reader. I was just thinking that this is the weekend that my willpower is really going to be tested. We always spend this weekend with friends at their secluded house. About 16 people, lots of crazy old dudes (and duddetes...lol). Drinking, eating, joking... and mainly smoking... I will have my chew sticks and some old 7mg patches with me and plan to spend a lot of time swimming with the kids... And, as always, for me riding is the way out of a stressful situation (man, Kaiser, I cannot figure out how you managed to keep the ash out of your eyes...)
Keep the quit guys
And remember all the fallen heroes that we are celebrating this weekend.

Thank you Rock!

Yes, summer weekends can be difficult for individuals who are quitting smoking.  There is a lot of temptation.  But also a lot of reminders to stay smoke free.  Take up an active hobby and enjoy your increased endurance! Take time to smell the blossoming gardens with your enhanced sense of smell.  Take a long canoe ride and breath in deeply with your increased lung capacity.

Members, what are other ways to enjoy summer weekends smoke free?

Hi Rock and Kaiser,

Here's wishing you a wonderful smoke-free weekend wherever you are.

I will be watching England play Bangladesh at cricket (it's that strange non-American game).
