OK Gimm - I am glad you are still with us and did not relapse. So the next stage is just as important as quitting....you need to plan coming off the NRT in exactly the same way as doing a quit. So planning, preparation.....all that good stuff.

Thanks yall! Well my plan to cold turkey off nrts didnt work. So, i bought some more. I'm frustrated that i had to buy more, but yall oh my goodness!!! I was a split second from giving up my quit many times today. I was even trying to rationale why i should smoke! Its been couple of hrs since i got some more nrts and i feel fine now. I'm going to try to wean off this time. I looked at my craving diary and 3 months ago i went off nrts for 15 days and all was good that time. I should of stayed off of them at that time.

I hate when this happens :( it will go away just keep the fight, i think some of us Non Smokers have this, of course it goes away as quick as it comes on, when it happens to me, i thinks WOW!!!!! where the Heck did that come from, of course we know we dont need to smoke, goes to show ya that ole nico deamon never gives up Hang Tough!!

I hear that you are experiencing intense withdrawal symptoms. Remember that these withdrawal symptoms will taper off with time. Use your coping mechanisms to help you get through the cravings and post often!

Major withdrawals all day today. Coming off the nrts has been a total repeat of not smoking. Maybe even worse, because when i first quit smoking, i was still getting nicotine.

Gimm, first off, I'm glad you didn't have that smoke.

I am also using the lozenge but I have just started, so I can't really say if I will have trouble coming off. Reading how you can become addicted to NRT's has me nervous. I should be off the lozenges end of July first of August, and I will see how difficult it will be not having nicotine in my system.

The directions on using the lozenge, as I comprehended, is that you gradually wean yourself off, but keep a few on hand at the end of therapy. If I were to say, take one a day past the two months following therapy I read you would need to talk to your physician, to find another and better way to remain smoke free.

Hey Gimm!!!

Well, now it's like you are sort of starting all over... UGH!!! Please consider what Ashley said. It sounds like you really need go over your coping mechanisms that you formulated when planning for your quit. Maybe you could review the Program's different milestones again and get your plan in place for weaning off the lozenges. Remember the 6-P's!

And... do what you are doing now! Post and wait for those 5 replies! Oh, and keep looking for distractions! You've really done a great job kicking part of that demon's ash... recommit to finishing that sucker off!!! I know that you can do this!!!

Man, I would hate to go through those days again! That been said, it is also reassuring that you have managed to get through those days without lighting one up. Would it be easier if you would go through the program, re-visiting the "why I quit" and maybe finding new coping with cravings techniques? I am sure that I have seen some old posts regarding the same withdrawal symptoms you must be feeling now. So maybe a search would reveal some... Oh Gimm, you are doing so great...

I've been advised to get off nicotine, so i've been without any since yesterday. I'm grouchy and dont feel good. Feels like day one all over again!

Gimm,

Have you done an internet search on "nicotine lozenges long term use" because I found quite a few people seem to have difficulty coming off the lozenges. People say that the aspartame is also addictive.

Personally, I did use NRT (the patch). I specifically avoided any method (inhaler/lozenge/gum) that was going to give me a "rush" because I was afraid of just replacing one addiction for another.

You are in an interesting stage because you've pretty much mastered the mental side of not smoking....but now it's the mental side of not using lozenges. You could consider 1) cold turkey or 2) patches possibly? I still got withdrawal symptoms with patches....but no rush...and because you "step down" in dosage every few weeks, then you do get off the nicotene.

Whatever you do, don't panic! Have a think. Make a plan.
