Hi Machiavelli,

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist in regards to dosage and potential side effects.  You might also want to start a thread specifically about NRT gum in order to get more responses.

Machiavelli, you've gotten some very good advice from the members here.

The Easyway to Quit smoking has helped a lot of us understand our addiction.  Understanding why we smoke can be the key to setting ourselves free.

Know that you CAN and will make this quit happen.  Self-knowledge, a plan and the support of this site can make it a whole lot easier.  Willpower is helpful but this is one serious addiction so use all the books, tools, advice and preparation you can get your hands on.  Your doctor may recommend some medication to help during the start of your quit.

It's easy to see you really do want this, so don't give up on quitting and you'll get it done.  Keep on chewing gum, doing sports, reading, walking around the building....SMASH SOME OLD DISHES, PUNCH A PILLOW, PLAY THE AIR GUITAR... do whatever it takes....just don't smoke!

All the best,
Pat

If you read the Carr book you will understand that quitting has nothing to do with willpower.  Using willpower is actually a much more difficult way to quit.  The key I see with you and this is just one guys opinion. That somewhere in the back of your mind you really do not want to quit.  I think you feel you should and half to do it but somewhere in the back of your mind you are afraid.  Part of  emphasizing your failure is trying to quit day after day and not succeeding.  If I were you I would back off the quitting and instead spend more time really watching how smoking does nothing to help you. See how chained you are to your smokes and how it affects you and write all of that down. Spend time seeing smoking for what it really is and start to really get angry at the addiction.  When you are fed up enough with it all you will put them down and not even question failure again. Many times it may take reaching a bottom somewhere in your life but it is within your reach. Keep the faith.Ron

hey mach or should I say Che? Anyway let me offer you this.....you won't need will power for years. A common fear that keeps us from quitting is thinking that it we will always feel the way we feel when we are going through the first weeks of quitting. This is not true. After about 3 weeks your body is pretty much free of the physical addiction and you are now only dealing with occasional triggers that are realatively easy to face and overcome. As time goes by you will rarely think of cigarettes and when you do it will be just that, a thought not a crave.

Mach you have to stick it out a couple of weeks and I promise it will get easier, much easier. But you must never let ANY nicotine from ANY source into your body again.

Good luck my friend We are rooting for you !

ok another quit date I hope it will be the last,I'm sorry for not doing it till now but I'm try cold turkey way in every quit  dates I choices so there is no much help around me .
In fact I drank water I chew gum I do sports I read I walk around the building..... etc.but I back to smoke at the end of the day....,will power is what I need in this quit but will power can last for years and could last for one day like in my case, so I need this time will power which lasting for years to do it this time ,so how to make turn my will power from 1 day to years ????.

                                                     THANKS.

Ok big guy..........today is the first day of your new non-smoking life and I wish you much success.  Just remember to take it one moment, one hour, one day at a time and you will be able to win this.  Post often and don't be afraid to seek help if you need it.

Kindest
