Hey Donna!!!

I'm loving your Kick-Ash Positive Attitude!!!    Very inspiring!!!  I am so happy that you are seeing a bit of that light at the end of the proverbial tunnel!  It DOES get better and better every day!  Just keep on taking it one day at a time, because there will be those days where you will be challenged!  Stay strong and know that all you have to do is say N.O.P.E. to maintain your freedom!  Oh yeah.... REWARDS!!!    So proud of you, buddy!

Katy,

From your month to God's ears.........finding my smoke free zone hasn't been easy. I always thought that my husband would be so supportive but he has been the one to try and sabotage me. Which only makes me more determined to do this. Today is number 28 and for the first time in those long 28 days the craving to smoke hasn't been hard. In fact today when my boss came in the office after smoking I couldn't stand to be around him. STINK.......LOL so you know not much loving going on at my house........LOL

My brother quit smoking three months ago and now only my husband and brother in law smoke. So they can stand out in the cold during Thanksgiving and Christmas......I joined the Y as a reward so now I can walk off those extra pounds. Thanks to the wonderful support of this forum and everyone here. You guys just don't know how much I appreciate you.

First of all Congratulations on quitting!!!   I quit with a whole family of smokers so I know what it's like looking for a smoke free zone.    You need to establish those zones, and the car needs to be one of them.   it's just safe places for you to retreat to when he lights up or when you have some of that stinkin' thinkin'.
Do you reward yourself?  Do you keep track of how much money you are saving?  Without trying to brag (and you need some of that too LOL) you need to congratulate yourself on a regular basis.   Let not smoking become rewarding in small ways each day and in bigger ways once a month maybe.  Plan the rewards for the milestones.
and always remember,  SMOKERS WATCH QUITTERS      no matter what they say, no matter what they do regarding your quit, (and they may try to sabotage you) they WATCH you.   show em how it's done girlfriend!!     Don't let stupid killer cigarettes have control of you!!
Within 6 months of my quitting, our entire family had picked up their own quits.......today we all remain smoke free after over 12 years.    It CAN be done.   Hang tough
                     Katy

Thank you for the support. I have tried to talk to him, a few months ago about it. He did cut down drastically. He tries to go outside or away from me. It seems though at night he feels he can still have one in the house and while driving. I'm going to have to sit him down again and tell him that's not working for me at all. He honestly thinks the window down means there's no smoke at all in the vehicle and the spray in the bathroom eliminates the smoke completely - neither are true .

I will try to talk to him again about it. Most days I"m doing good and strong, but once in a while I'll be thrown off on how bad I want one. But my desire to breath better, to get healthier, to save that money, is a lot more powerful than my cravings are. :-)

I had a very hard time with secondhand smoke and leftover smoke smells on people for at least a year, and it still occasionally gets to me.

He needs to smoke outside. Outside the car and outside the house. I know that kind of stinks (pardon the pun) for him, but he needs to respect your commitment to quit. That secondhand smoke is just too triggering, especially early on in your quit. Maybe he can use lozenges or gum while in the car or needing a late night fix?

I wish I had a better answer.

Congrats on 76 days! I'm with HotSiO2 on this on. Time for a talk. Maybe you two can compromise on smoke free zones within the house... Like the bedroom/bathroom.

Hi Hockeymom,
Seventy six days without a smoke is awesome! A big thumbs up to you.  Now about your better half, have you actually sat down with him and told him how hard is on you when he smokes around you? If not, maybe you just need to mention it to him. If you have I don't really know what to say then. I don't want to strain a marriage or anything. How about bribing him with some nicotine gum and/or a box of nicotine patches? You never know.
Good luck and hang in there...
