Friday & Saturday night

for 12 år siden 0 57 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks for all of the input everyone, I will definitely use some of these ideas as strategies to keep me busy.
Ashley, the way I want to spend my evening would be to go out and have dinner or go to a movie.  But, I don't have the money for that. I really miss doing things like that, but my financial status just doesn't allow for it very often anymore.  I used to use Friday night as a time to pamper myself, paint my nails, watch a good movie, but I always had a bottle of wine on hand while doing it.  I can still this, I just need to program my mind that I don't have to have the wine.  I have also reconnected with a friend that is also a single mom & she may be up for watching a movie together.  I'm glad to have her company, as most of my friends are married and are quite busy with their families and own schedules.  I was thinking I may go to the bookstore, I love to read, can't buy any books, but I can make a list of the one's I am interested in and check them out.
So, thanks again for all of your tips and I will make a list of these things and use them to my advantage.
Mom, good luck tonight, you do the same, keep looking for those distractions.

Hi reddragon,

Good for you for coming here to post about this. It is so important that you recognize a possible trigger and you are taking steps to prepare. Nice work!

I have some ideas for you. I'm hoping we are just brainstorming so I am just going to throw out any idea I have

-Make a vision board you can post somewhere to remind yourself how much this quit is important to you. Post motivational quotes. Images you find inspiring, people you find inspiring, what ever resonates with you.
-Go online and look up new hobbies you might like to get involved with in the future now that you will have more time - volunteering, crafts, classes in your area, festivals, gardening, exercises, etc. - you could start to make a notebook or file of possible new interests.
-Go online and look for some of the free games that are out there. There are tons available and a lot of them have a social aspect. They are a good distraction when you are bored. Look for top ten lists to find the really good ones.
-Post and read through old discussions here.
-Bake!
-Take a nice hot bath
-Call an old friend you haven't talked to in awhile
-Go to a coffee shop and read or people watch
-Start watching a new TV series that you can get addicted to

Members, please add to the list?

Reddragon, how do you want to spend you evening? Are any new ideas popping up now that you have been thinking about it?

I just made it through Day Two, and like you, I now need to get through a weekend.

Actually, today should be a challenge, as now I do not work on Fridays and have the luxury of being home all day.  Usually I get really drunk, and then start drinking lots of water so that I appear normal when my husband and kids get home.  Then by the time my husband is ready to sit down with a drink, I am happy to start drinking again.

Yesterday I chewed a piece of gum like crazy and just went on this site a bunch of times to do some reading here and there.

Today I have a HUGE list of things I would like to accomplish - some physical things like yardwork, some desk things like paperwork (I like to drink when I am sitting at my computer).  I am going to get started on my list and concentrate really hard on not getting distracted.

Tonight my sister and her kids are coming for supper.  I imagine she will be expecting us to offer her a drink.  I am going to have coke/gingerale/rum on hand (rum is still in the garage).  My husband can take care of offering her a drink and making it for her.  I just need to make sure that I don't have one myself.  I will be squirming for sure, but I do look forward to coming back to this site and announcing to anyone who will listen that I made it through one more day!

Keep on looking for ways of distracting yourself.  If one thing is not working, immediately try something else.  And keep on posting.

What can I do to ease the boredom and loneliness?

You can visit the AAs web-site and read the book called Alcoholics Anonymous. There is Bills Story at the front of the book and there are several other stories at the back of the book.

You could see how people who were in a miserable state staged a recovery and led a serene purposeful life using the program of AA. It was very inspiring for me. It gave me great hope when I entered the fellowship about 6 years ago.

Thanks Mom, I want you to succeed too!! I don't have any plans for the weekend. Going to clean this house, I'm a terrible housekeeper, and when my girls are gone to their dad's it is the best time for me to get going and scrub! I have some homework for school too.  I have to make a scrapbook for my anatomy lab of articles relating to things we did in class.  So I plan on spending a good bit of time doing that too.  I never really talk to anyone about my drinking. I have a few select people that I have shared with that I have a problem, but I don't really talk to my family about it. One time I told my sister that I thought I had a drinking problem and her response was "Oh my God, are you an alcoholic?" Like I was a freak of nature. About two weeks later I was drinking a glass of wine at my nieces shower and my sister came up to me and made a face like she was fussing at a child and whispered "put that down!". It irritated me so much and now I just don't want to talk to anyone about my drinking. My close friends that I have shared with are sympathetic to a point, but they don't drink, so they don't get it either.  So, that's why I'm on this site. to talk to others and learn from others who have my problem.  I am glad that you will be here over the weekend.

I have been drinking for many years.  Goodness.  In recent months, though, I got to an extreme and have been drinking lots daily.

I tried L-O-T-S of different ways of cutting down or quitting. (did not go to AA but I don't think it is for me).  I have found that simply by reading posts here, and being part of the forums, I feel encouraged to make it through Day One, and then Day Two, and so on.

For me, it's different from telling my husband that I am going to quit, and then being accountable for my actions.  So far, I am enjoying telling people who can relate to me that I am attempting this.  I feel that no one here is responsible for keeping an eye on me or that their lives are going to be affected in any way if I fail trying.  It does feel good to keep in touch, make it public that I am promising myself to work on quitting, and know that there are actually good people out there who are just like me, and they can relate.

I am home this weekend!  Keep on posting!  Every half hour if you need to!  I know I will be on this site as I myself will be working through my cravings.  What are you doing this weekend?  I am tidying up my yard and working on flower beds.  I love gardening and getting outside!  When I am done working hard all day, it is extremely easy and thoroughly enjoyable for me to put back at least 4 beers, maybe more.

Tell you what, if you feel tempted or miserable over the weekend, maybe you can take strength in knowing that I will be in the same boat.  (:-)

I want you to succeed!

Well, since I have made it through a full week without drinking, I am feeling great.  Here is the scary part for me and it usually leads to my downfall.  Tomorrow is Friday and also the weekend that my children go to their dad's house.  I will be at home alone.  I don't have any money to do anything. NONE! My only options are HBO  and Netflix or reading a book.  I could drive to the mall and look around, but that only depresses me to look at things I can't afford. Does anyone have any suggestions? What can I do to ease the boredom and loneliness? It's really only at night that I am bothered, during the day I find things to do. Open to any comments! Thanks!!
