kelly, Welcome to The Panic Center. We thank you for sharing your story with us today. This support group is full of supportive individuals who may be able to help you answer some questions regarding panic and anxiety. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Take care and we hope to hear from you soon. Hi Kelly, I find listening to music, watching TV,eating and talking to friends helpful distraction during times of anxiety. Perhaps you could try and reframe the thought ie "I know this is not good for my baby" as that in itself could trigger more anxiety. Maybe a calming thought could be " I feel a bit anxious today but I can handle it." I hope it helps. Take care. Radha

Hiya Kelly, I am not sure what to say to reassure you but i will tell you what helps me when i am anxious. First, challenging my anxious thoughts always helps. Also, deap slow breathing to help my body relax really helps. Finally, distraction, distraction, distraction! I find distracting myself by watching something fun and relaxing or reading a good book or writting in my diary, anything that helps occupy my brain helps me pass the time till whatever scares me is over with. anyway, sorry i could not be more helpful. -Diva

Angel, Your doctor is the best authority to explain to you what tests will be conducted. These tests are strongly based on presenting symptoms, previous & family history and as such will vary from person to person. Danielle _____________________ The PC Support Team

Hey Diva, Angiogram is when they insert a catheter into you, fill it with some contrast material and then some pictures/imaging is done of the coronary arteries, veins or heart chambers. Hope this helps. Radha

Which one is the angiogram again?

Hi Angel, I've had a range of test done before due to palpitations and fast heart rate. I had to get a blood test, especially testing for thyroid, iron levels and full blood count, cholesterol and sugar. It is important to have cholesterol levels within the standard limits. You will find that the electrolytes are checked in most standard test. The cardiologist also got me to do a chest X-ray. Then I did an ECG which I don't think really is an indicative of the condition of your arteries. But it can show any abnormal heart rhythm functions which then get further testing. Then I had a echocardiogram done, which is an ultrasound of the heart. This determines the structure of the heart and how well the blood is flowing through etc. This is an important test. Then there is the 24 hour event/Holter monitor where you get the monitor strapped on you and it will capture all your heart rhythms during the period. Then finally you have the stress test, which is when you get to go on the threadmill while they measure your blood pressure and heart rate. The test is usually for 9 minutes and found it very challenging due to the slope changes and pushes one a bit especially if unfit or anxious but it seems it is useful in determining heart function during exercise. There is one other test which is the angiogram where they get to look inside the artery. I haven't done this and prefer not to as it has high risks. The above information is based on personal experience and please discuss with your doctor as to which tests you need and the risks associated with them especially the angiogram and even the stress test. And finally these tests all costs a lot of money, so you will perhaps need to take that into consideration. I guess I agree with Diva in just getting the ECG, it's quick and non-invasive and may give you some reassurance especially if your cholesterol levels are under control. Hope this helps. Radha

Well i don't know that much about artery tests but i do know that an ECG checks for your heart to see how it beat and the electricity that it uses for pumping and stuff. Very good very easy heart test! And i don't find ecg test scary at all. If you are worried about your heart it is definetely a good easy test to have done. As for arteries I am afraid somebody else will have to answer you, sorry angel. But one thing is for sure, I think if this is bothering yo that much you should definetely have it checked out and that will help reassure you so you can challenge your fears more effectively. Hang in there! -Diva
