Caffeine and anxiety

for 17 år siden 0 40 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I'm a bit like Bella, where one day I had Cola and I ended up having a panic attack so I'm trying to cut back on that. I've also found that when I eat spicy foods I'm prone to feeling panicky. Does anyone else have this problem? Also, when I eat too much to the point of feeling sick I end up with anxious thoughts and last night I ended up having a panic attack. Maybe it is because I associate the feelings from overeating with panic attacks and end up convincing myself I'm having one, I'm not sure!

I think it is different for different people. I used to drink soooo much pepsi, but then one day I started freaking out everyday so I stopped. Now I can drink pepsi only in moderation.

Well I have cut out coffee and have cut out chocolate (That one hurt...) I have started eating more healthy and I am up to walking an hour 5 to 7 days a week. I have cut down on sugar but I find if i cut all sugar out i get depressed, sad and irritable, so in my case it is a question of balance. Letting myself have enough sugar to feel well (honey is a great way to get sugar and fruits too but i do sometimes eat cake or drink juice lol) but not going over the top so I don't trigger my anxiety. I am getting pretty good at walking that fine line between too much and not enough lol. But i defenitely see how eating healthier cutting most stimulants out of my diet and exercising more has helped me a lot with this! -Diva

Dina, Very astute observation. Panic does engage your body' fight or flight response and this response does trigger a release of adrenaline. The adrenaline does get your body to dump it's glucose stores resulting in a temporary spike of your blood sugar so you as a result may be more sensitive to sugar. Have other members experienced sensitivities to large amounts of sugar? Have any of you changed your diets accordingly? Danielle ____________________ The PC Support Team

I too cannot drink caffeine anymore. It pushes me over the edge and into the emergency room, but I have a question.. Have any of you ever noticed that sugar can also trigger a panic attack? I have noticed if I eat any candy or caffeine free soda like sprite, it triggers a minor panic attack. My blood sugar has been checked so I am not diabetic. My doctor already ruled that out.

David, Thanks for sharing. It's true, we are all different and caffeine may not have the same effect on you as it does others. Danielle ____________________ The PC Support Team

I guess biologically we are all different because for me caffeine was a big issue. My body and nervous system are a lot calmer now that i avoid stimulants like caffeine. But hey, if for you it makes no difference then i am happy for you :) I miss eating chocolate lol. -Diva

I've suffered anxiety/panic attacks 10 years, I tried a little test, On Jan 1st 2007 I went of both Caffeine and Alcohol, I can honestly hand on heart say I felt no difference what so ever. In saying that I was never addicted to caffeine anyway, I could drink maybe 4 cups of coffee 1 day and have none the next and have absolutly no desire for it. I started back on the caffeine start of April, It was a bottle of Jolt cola and we all know the amount of caffeine that stuff has in it, I didn't notice 1 bit of difference after drinking it and that was me without 1 bit of Caffeine in 3 months.

Oh yeah caffeine is a big issue for me. I avoid coffe chocolate and everyother forms of stimulant now and it helps a lot. I definetely think caffeine is an issue for anxious people. -Diva
