Insomnia

for 16 år siden 0 131 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I know I have evenings when I can't sleep, or I wake up in the middle of the night and my mind is wandering. I have my son's DS and I play one of the games on this...(the Brain Age games are good). My counsellor mentioned that even playing Saduko is good, it gets your mind off things and calms your down and tires your eyes and mind.

Hmmmm the lovely insomnia . Bane of my life . I have this problem since having children i think . I get sooo jealous when i know how much family members can sleep at a time . If i get off to sleep ok i end up waking countless times a night so give up and do housework in peace and quiet . But when i cant drop off and im NOT anxious i watch a movie and move onto power reading till the book hits my face lol. I cannot stand warm milk so thats a no go . Listening to music is a good one as it does distract 'thoughts' . Used to have the radio on but nooooooo good what-so-ever . You hear news and weather reports which sparks off your mind as well . Hmmm im not much help here but i do empathise with you . Hope you are sleeping better now .

Members, Please note that natural does not always mean safe. Although herbal products can produce great therapeutic affects they can also interact with medications or aggravate certain medical conditions. Please consult a physician or pharmacist before commencing a product such as melatonin. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

I have been trying the warm milk and nutmeg, and it certainly does help when I am not feeling too anxious, as does reading in low light. When I am very bad though nothing seems to work. I must get a stereo for my room and try the music as I am certain that might help as it would be a good 'distraction'.

Corryn, A few ideas... * Reading * Keep the lights low * No TV (Interrupts your brain' ability to produce chemicals that induce sleep) * Cookies & warm milk. The tryptophan in warm milk can only be activated when combined with glucose which you get from the cookies. * Deep breathing * Listening to classical music has been shown to help relax and calm. Hope this helps. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Hello all, I have only just started the course and have been feeling really good already. But tonight of all nights I have had a panic attack out of the blue and now I am totally unable to sleep. The inability to get to sleep is stressing me even more as its my little girls 4th birthday party tomorrow and Im afraid I'm going to spoil it as I'll probably be in a it of a state. Anyone got any hints on curing insomnia? I find it one of the worst side affects of these attacks. Tonight I have had Diazepan Betabolckers and warm milk but am still wide awake and stressed out. Help!!! Corryn
