summer storms are here

Yes cornish dee, she was a real treat!..tomorrow (monday) might be severe storms again, and i'm home alone, so its going to be a real challenge, I might just close all the curtains and either watch tv, or sit and do crosswords, or if i'm really brave, work on my quilt!!!!  They are just summer storms, with rain and thunder and lightning.  I wasnt as scared until we got the bad storm last year, now I think they are all bad.  Also I keep thinking to try and be calm that the severe storm last year, still didnt knock over our old porch/deck thing, thats hanging on by a couple of nails.  Its too stressful being anxious all the time, its too tiring.   I could try take that energy and put into something more productive than stress,  I could turn the music really loud and dance!!!!!

Hi Minnesota,   Great to hear that you challenged yourself and remained calm. Use this event as an example for the next storm.     Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

Hi, today late in the day, the sirens went off for a severe thunderstorm, and I just tried not to panic and I stood and waited to see what was going to happen.  I didnt run and freak out.  But nothing happened, it rained and it was windy and then the warning was cancelled.  Tonight its still storming, but i'm working on something at my computer then going to work on crossword puzzles, and try ignore the noise. :) try to keep focused and not panic or freak out..

Hi cornish dee, yeah I'm sure you are right.  I would love to move, but who can outrun weather, and if I go somewhere else, there will be other things I wont like.  It says showers and some thunder today.  Not severe, so I just keep busy and if it looks severe, i'll go next door.  I dont want to run there all the time, as i'm not dealing with it if I do.  When I lived in South AFrica, I was very afraid of storms.  My dad had a cottage in the garden, and I slept out there, but when it got bad, I wanted to go sleep in the main house, but my step mom wouldnt allow it.  So I always felt isolated in storms, I think part of my fear stems from those incidents. I suppose thats why I always try run to the neighbours or something like that.  We got very bad thunderstorms there in the summer, and I would just sit in the cottage  (which had a lot of glass) in the hail and feel terrified.

Hello there Minnesota . I think that even some people who dont suffer with anxiety would be frightened of the storms you  get there . I agree with Josie , you are doing all the right things . I havnt got any other suggestions . I think you are very brave indeed .

Minnesota,   You actually have your techniques right in front of you and you are using them!  Continue with the crosswords and add word searches and magazines. It's also ok to want to be with others when the weather gets rough.   Make some muffins, bring the tea, and have a game night to ease you mind and challenge those thoughts away.   You are doing a great job!     Josie, Health Educator

Hi gang, As we are warming up our severe weather is back.  I'm already worried and have been following the weather everyday.  I was ok the other night.  I couldnt sleep so i was doing my crosswords in the guestroom and I was ok, I didnt wake my husband, i just keep reading and  Iwas nervous, but I thought just keep doing what i'm doing as it wont make a difference if its storming or not, i'm still going to be in bed doing crosswords.   On sunday we had severe weather in MN, and north of us was a huge tornado, I feel so sad for those families.  Everytime they say thunderstorms I just about panic.  I usually go next door when i'm alone to visit my neighbours and they expect me when its severe, during the day when hubby is out at work.   I just dont want to dread the days because of the weather.  We cant control it but any ideas for trying to relax, and not freak out!!!!
