camping in nature

Hi Red:  Where is this latest pic from?  I looks like snow at night, but it's sand, right?  Very nice, I like the horizon shot.

Hi Red and Cleo:  a place I would love to go back to is the four corners states.  Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah.  I just loved it there. sigh, hope to one day again.  I can understand why my brother lives in Arizona 6 months of the yr.  I remember driving through Death Valley at high noon on purpose to feel the heat the pioneers went through.  I love the way the salt flats shimmer in the sun.  We saw a tarantula crossing the hwy.  Noooo, we did not stop to photograph it though one of us wanted to. lol.
Cleo, hope you don't mind I will tell Red what PEI stands for.  It is for our smallest province.  It is an island just above Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.  Have you heard of the story Ann of Green Gables?  PEI was her home province where the story unfolds.  I camped out near the beaches for over a month.  Just loved it.  Made some local friends and they brought me cod jigging, had clam bakes (not too keen on clams) and lobster bbqs.  They showed me how to dig the clams up and how to make a clam chowder.  They say though, winter is no picnic as the winds howl off the ocean and drift covering the roads up all the time.  Might be a good quiet place for a writer or a painter in the winter.   That's my romantic side coming up.

Have a great day, Sunny

Cleo,
Yes this picture was taken in the desert. Type in Salton Sea on your computer and do a search and you can find out all about it.  There are many many birds there, Sunny Bono the late actor has a wild life refuse near by.  People who go here are looking for peace and quiet and are pretty much bird watchers. It is a very primitive location.  Most people camp in Rv's and travel Trailers. I find this and many other places in different deserts very peaceful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say.  Camping is not something you do in the summer in the desert, you wait till the weather cools off.  I have yet to see any snakes, scorpions.  I guess if you go looking for trouble you can find it.  Kind of like negative core beliefs if you continue to look at the negative in everything that you see in the world all you can see is the ugliness in the world and not the beauty.

What does PEI mean??? Just wondering.  Anyway I see no reason in letting your Negative view of the desert spoil it for me.
Sometimes it is better to say nothing if you have nothing Positive to say.  I have nothing else positive to say so I am going to end this post now.

Ok. I'm confused, or missed something.... or both.....you are talking about the desert, how beautiful it is..( I can only imagine), ('cept those snakes and scorpions and things) and Red puts up this stunning avatar of  what appears to be a  lake? with mountains?  Is that an oasis?
It's a gorgeous picture, but not what I pictured a desert to look like...this is coming from a woman  who has only travelled as far south to Bangor, Maine! Whoo hoo! My honeymoon to boot!
There is a spot here in  mainland BC which I've travelled through...they call it a desert, all I know it was bloody hot when we stopped for gas!
All I can add to this conversation is PEI....if you like sand, soft and  warm, with gentle breezes(summertime), pretty much untouched.... well, its  just heavenly!
Someday to go to a desert,
Cleo

Hi Sunny,
I love the way you described the stars looking like diamonds against black velvet. I had forgotten how beautiful the stars are in the desert.  I hope you get to spend some time in the desert again too.

Hi Red:  I love the desert too.  Don't know it as well as you but have camped out there.  The stars are just amazing - truly like diamonds against black velvet because there are no artificial lights around.  I even camped on the ground outside and felt so peaceful.  I know out there you have to be careful of rattlers and tarantulas, scorpions, etc. and that did enter my mind, but I wanted one night out in the open.  I love the different cacti and how the birds can make homes in them.  Hopefully I'll be back some day.  Hope you get to enjoy real soon.

I am looking forward to camping in the desert again as soon as the weather cools down. This is one of the places I go to relax and renew my spirit. There is such beauty there. The peace and quiet the wind blowing gently and the beautiful sunrise and sunsets.  Not to mention all the birds and other wildlife that call it home.  Most people think of the desert as a hot and arid place but I find it beautiful when the weather is cool.  It is pretty much unspoiled by mankind and it has a ever changing landscape with the drifting sand. I find myself yearning to go there again soon.
