Understand anxiety

When I read everything everyone goes through it brings back memories of my own struggles and triggers anxious thoughts. I can't help it because there is nothing I can do except be here and say, stick with it because it works. Besides being here I have off line friends I talk with so the load gets pretty big but it doesn't matter how big it gets anymore. I have the skills to ride it out and every time I do it gets easier. Now panic and anxiety are just observed actions with no symptoms attached. I feel your frustrations and pains and I can relate to them from my experience but they don't do me any harm. Years ago I would never have thought I could go through life without hiding from it. Believing is still the key and it took a while but I did finally believe. I just don't know how to cut through the doubt and get people to believe after all I didn't either at first.

I learnt again that I feel what I think. I got caught up in my having another setback and got scared all over again, therefore giving me another panic attack and anxiety. 

But this time it didn't last long because I've felt this all before and I'm still here, normal and healthy. 

Davit was right, you have to feel and ride the anxiety, to learn and get experience from it. It doesn't scare you like it used to. 

Hopefully it will be up from here...

Hi Cara,

This is a hard question to answer. Anxiety can accompany other disorders so it is important to get a diagnosis from a doctor to rule out anything else. Anxiety can be related to depression or depersonalization disorder. Anxiety can not CAUSE another mental illiness like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. I have heard many people have this fear that they are going "crazy" due to anxiety and I can reassure you that this is very, very likely not the case at all. Anxiety is scary but it does not mean you are losing your mind.
 
Having setbacks are actually a normal part of the healing process. The key is to learn from them and keep growing. What can you learn from this setback?

Hi Ashley,

I feel I am in control of my anxiety, but now I feel like I'm having set back.  There is always a worry that this can be something else, or can lead to a more serious mental illness.  CAn this happen?  I feel that if I can reassure myself and tell myself that this can not get worse than I can be okay.

That I can totally overcome this, I'm almost 85% confident I can overcome anxiety.  I feel that I have overcome the worse so I can do it again.  Plus I've done a lot of research and etc to learn more about this. 

I have the love of life that I never had before.  I grab the day as it comes and enjoy it.  I also, am proud of myself for overcoming the worse thing i've ever had to go through before in my life.

CAn you tell me what anxiety can lead to???? CAn it get worse than what it is??? CAn it cause you to go crazy, because sometimes I have those moments of feeling crazy?

This was nice to read, Cara.  I am very happy for you.  I sometimes tell people that having suffered from anxiety was a gift for me.  I learned about the incredible power that our minds have.  I also learned so many relaxation techniques and I am happier now than before as a result. 
 
I really like what you've written here about what you think is what you feel.  I'm excited to have a happy rest of my day and I wish the same for you!

Congratulations. I can see it getting better and better for you till it is automatic. You have the right Attitude and that has proved to be half the battle for those who win.

I've been doing very well and wanted to let everyone know that a few months ago I thought I could not get over this and finally I think I got what it takes to overcome this.
Although, I sometimes wish I could forget what happened to me but I learnt so much from it. The most important things I got from this experience is, "what you think is what you feel". If you think sad thoughts, you feel sad, if you think scared things, you feel scared. I give myself psychosomatic symptoms because I'll think I'm dizzy and then I'll start feeling dizzy and if I let it scare me I'll panic... Now I just challenge, change my though patterns and look for the positives.
Also, you've always had anxiety, but at some point in your life, it's scared you and became uncontrollable. Practice all the anxiety skills till you perfect it. I'm still practicing them till this day, but the difference is now I don't dwell on what's happening to me or my body or my mind. I just accept everything as it is and move on...

Davit: you were a real good help to me. You gave me analogies that still sticks in my mind when I feel anxiety or down. You're right we have to keep practicing and then realize that we're not even practicing anymore, it's become automatic.

I'm not saying I'm 100% but because I'm aware of what's happening and "thoughts make your emotions", I an learning to change my thoughts and accept them. They're not always true, they could be frightening but it's okay.
