I hate being at the dentist. I almost always have an attack while they have something in my mouth. I usually sweat through it with out moving or them knowing any of the wiser.
Same thing happened two months ago while getting my hair cut and washed.
All these new phobias that I allow to creep into my life...
Thank Cecilia and English rose for your kind words. I think that tonight before i got to bed (THIS IS WHEN I DO SOME MEDITATION) i will visualize being at the dentist and say to myself that all will be ok. This dentist doesn't use the gas but does go to the OR at my local hospital. I will meet her and see what she recommends. Again thanks for your responses.
Jacqueline :)
Well done Jacqueline, making that call to the dentist must have been realy hard. Finding a good dentist that understands your fears will be a great help. You could take a personal stereo with you, that way if the dentist has not got any background music you could listen to your own, it might help you to take your mind off what the dentist is doing and help you relax. Good luck, we will all be thinking of you, Rose
Way to go! Does your Dentist use nitrous oxide for procedures? I know that my Mom has anxieties with the Dentist and searched until she found one that does. Just a thought.
As for your visit Thursday, I would suggest you meditate on seeing the Dentist, visualize yourself listening to her and how you'll handle the visit and examination in a calm relaxed state. I used to have to do this just to go to the store, but it really does help.

Well i did it. Well not IT per say. I telephone the dentist this afternoon to book an appointment to see her. It took me all day. Had the number out and everything. I got so stressed out that i actually had to go and have a nap. When i awoke i told myself that there is nothing to be afraid of cause she is only going to look and see what needs to be done. No major poking or proding going to happen... Maybe some x-rays which i know i can handle. I am going to see her THIS WEEK!!!! Thursday. I am going to go! Why should i be afraid of just meeting with this lady. I wrote ahead and explained my condition and she emailed me back a couple of weeks ago saying that she is willing to take the time to work with me. And that she was greatful for the honesty about how terrified i am. Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Also any advice on how to handle having the work done as i already know i have to have 3 extractions.
