On section four of the program, I would like some input from others on goal setting for driving and driving over bridge. My circumstance is one particular bridge, since that is where I tend to well up and my panic explodes just approaching it. I looked over the samples of exposure to driving and the bridge. My predicament is this. I live in a small town, not native to this city. As suggested in the goal sample, driving around the block, and even a subdivision for an hour, would most certainly have the police pulling me over thinking I was scoping out a house to rob. Sure I can say Im doing exposure therapy, I have my license and am a resident of the county. But I think it would go down in the books of the most funniest excuses for pulling over a driver, then they would have to call all the neighbors who in returned called them and state, well its this lady, just cruising around, and then the next day, I would be doing a subdivision, and more eyebrows would be raised. Hmmmm.....now this lady is checking out 10 streets.
The "Bridge"- I have a specific fear of only this one bridge, it is the only one I have to cross to get to the adjacent county where family lives, and to shop. Im fine ride over it, its not the height. But it is an extremely tall bridge, that pedesterians are not permitted to walk across it, or you will once again get the attention of the police, as this is a notorious bridge for people (God Rest their souls)have jumped from.
Anybody with any other ideas on how to approach or change the exposure goals from their experiences?
Thanks,
Trish
