How do you know if you need a therapist? For me I used to leave her office feeling ten feet tall and bullet proof. I used to look forward to it. Now it is more teacher and pupil and I could drop it but I am still learning things, Not always about me but still learning.
I would say try a therapist and see. I admit I did not want to go the first time. But I was real bad and I am glad I did.
You can decided if you need a therapist in addition to the program. If feel that you need some extra support, or someone to talk to , reach out and find a therapist. If you find yourself getting worse, that is an indication that you need to seek the help of a therapist. The more support you can have, the better! It is common to not "click" with a therapist as many people experience this. If this is this case, trust your instinct and find one with whom you feel comfortable.
What do you think the benefits are of seeing a therapist?
Post here as often as you need and we will support you!
Welcome to the program and support group. Yes you can benefit from and work the program here without a therapist. Only you can know if you need a therapist. I have been working the program without a therapist and my life has improved drastically from working this program here... This program can really help you, all you have to do is start reading and working the program slowly.
If you feel you need a therapist later than you can seek out one. Remember to be patient with yourself when working the program and try not to worry and rush it. When you actually start working the program things will all start to make sense and you will get a better understanding of yourself and you will look at worrying in a whole different light. Yes you really can get better....
I'm a big thinker and have been a very worried and anxious person since I was a kid. I also have many periods where I feel really strong, confident and happy and then something happens that hits me right back to the ground. That's where I am right now.
I've tried face-to-face therapy 10 years ago but it didn't "click" with that therapist and at that time I got through the rough time just by the help of family and friends and pushing myself to do things I enjoyed and trying to think happy thoughts - which is really hard when you feel like you are always going to feel like this....
I hope I can do it again, and now I also can get help and thoughts from all you guys. That feels great!
The biggest step for me this time I guess was to sort of admitting to myself that I am more worried than other people around me and I am an expert at winding myself up. I am sooo tired of that and I hope I can get rid of my worried mind, or atleast calm it down, for once and for all!!
Hi aswa: Welcome. Yes, you can! This CBT Program is one of the best for anxiety and stress related disorders. Are you ready to start? One step at a time is all it takes. Many of us here have studied it. I don't have panic attacks anymore and I know it is this program which has helped me achieve this. It works, for real.
Start at the beginning and do the homework - very important. Practice the relaxation techniques every day - yes, every day without fail. When you need it, it will come to you, just like riding a bicycle. Pick a time of day to do relaxation techniques for 5-10 minutes a day - you can do it morning and evening. You can do it before bedtime. Up to you. When you get these coping techniques in place and are comfortable with them, you will be able to use them for exposure work later on. You'll see what I mean as you study the program.
Please know that you are not alone. Some of us here are just starting the program as you are, some are in the middle of studying, some of us are panic free and like to extend a helping hand. One thing is for sure about this site. We are friendly and supportive of one another. We'll cheer you on and will celebrate all your successes. You can ask as many questions as you like and post whatever you need to figure things out.
Hope you start the program today. Read past and present posts as they are informative and inspiring too.
Can I help myself overcoming anxiety and worries just by using the Internet, the program here and the support groups or do I need a real life therapist aswell? How do I know?
