Butterfly; I was thinking of you and your apartment experience as I was writing the post--you raise a very intriquing thought about this heightened sensitivity leveling off, makes me wonder what other things we may have missed. Did I used to really smell like that--omigosh, gross!!! Recently, I have had two very enlightening experiences that make me see how far I have come in my quit. The first was about a week ago when the boss suggested we go out for lunch--not generally an invitation that you can turn down gracefully. Unfortunately he takes us to a restuarant that also has a cigar bar. Even with only 1 person there, I knew immediately that this was going to be a rocky meal. The smell of that one cigar overpowered everything and this despite the fact that they had those highpowered fans right near the bar. I ate my meal and then made up some lame meeting excuse to get out the door--the rest of the afternoon I would catch a sniff of my jacket or my shirt and smell that dang ole cigar. The other experience was checking into a hotel in disney world a few days later. The front desk did not ask if we wanted a smoking or non-smoking room, so we just assumed that it would be non-smoking. Wrongo, oh hogs breath. As soon as we opened the door, the entire family was overcome by the odor of stale cigarettes. We immediately demanded another room. And to think for years, I would specifically request a smoking room--if I could have only smelled myself then, I would have been quit a decade ago. It's funny how smoker's can't smell themselves, someone should invent a strip that contains that stinky smoky smell to give people that perspective of how other's smell them. (If anyone decides to patent that last idea, please make sure all the proceeds go towards SSC). ;) bb My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/3/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 121 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 971 Amount Saved: $363 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 20 Mins: 35 Seconds: 26
Wrongo, oh hogs breath.
LMAO!!!!!!! I'm STILL laughing!!!! I know, it's totally disgusting how we used to smell... I started a thread not long ago on this same topic! I had to RUN out of my apartment complex to get away from the smell of my landlord! So I totally feel your pain! Does this hightened sense of smell ever go away? I mean, does it ever level itself off? Is this how well never smokers smell? I mean, it's great to be able to smell things again, but sometimes, that's more a curse than blessing! Thanks for the laugh Blueberry! Crave the Quit! I agree 100%, my nose has got to be the most sensitive nose ever and its not a very big nose :p I am amazed at how much I can smell things, good and bad. I love to smell the fresh outdoors but walking past the horse farm is a tad strong. :gasp: When a smoker comes into my work its all I can do to serve them, I feel so bad that I smelled like that. Since there is NO smoking in any public place I don't have to smell smoke anymore. I do feel bad for stinking up my home all those years though.
