My Quit Day is One Week Away

Jacko is right, I love my "count down to Q day" meter. I took me a couple of tries to realize you have to hit the change button in order for it to stick. But after that it was a piece of cake :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Congratulations on your decision to quit!!! :) My quit day is 19 days from now (August 1, 2206) and like you I have been visiting this site, using the tools and preparing for my quit day. Just like you I am nervous as the day approaches, but together we can do this. Together we are strong :) The conference maybe a blessing as it will keep you occupied and your mind will be on other things. My quit day is on a Tuesday and every Tuesday is "beach day" in our house (we live 15 minutes from the beach). At first I thought it might be hard since the beach is the only place the kids and I go where I can smoke (they frown on it at the library, the other mothers turn a wicked eye on me at the park, and that Chuck E Cheese can be a real rat if you light up around him). Then I realized that when Im at the beach I really do smoke less because I'm busy playing with the kids and those waves have a habbit of extingushing the cigarette lol. So I'm going to look on it as a blessing and I hope you do the same. Celebrate you quit day. You picked that day and you know yourself better than anyone. Remember everyone is here for you. One week from today I STOP SMOKING!! I have been working with the website tools for a couple of weeks to prepare. I really need the emotional help from you. What I like about this site is everyone seems so positive and upbeat and very encouraging to each other. The hardest part for me so far has been just lighting a cig before I know what I am doing. The daily log has helped me to realize when I crave them the most. Sometimes I just turn around a put it out after a puff or two. A friend of mine who is going on the trip with me next week says I am making a mistake trying to quit while at a conference. What do you think? I usually don't smoke while I am at a conference for fear someone will know and only sneak around and smoke a couple a day anyway. That is why I chose that date because I will be gone for 4 days. She did put that doubt in my head though. I just really want to quit and have been saying that was the day even long before I found this site. I know I am rambling I am just kinda scared that I won't be successful unless I have some real support from those who understand. So I am anxious to hear your responses. Thanks in advance. CDS

cD, Personally, I think that it is a great idea to stop when you are going to be where you can't smoke anyways. That is a good thing. The only thing I would ask is, is this something that you will need a lot of focus or brain power for? Sometimes in the first days it's hard to focus well and your brain kind of turns to mush. Anyways, I wish I would have had a good non smoking place to be my first days! We are looking forward to your quit, and we will be here for you. CD, congrats on taking the major step of actually setting a date to quit!!!! That is a big hurdle. As for your friend, this is your quit and if in your mind and heart you want to quit, then you can. Glad you did the tools beforehand and always visit here as much as possible. The people here are just absolutely wonderful and will give you the strength to continue even when you just want to throw the computer out the window and smoke anyways (been there - almost threw my laptop out the window till some longer quitters stepped in). Again, Congrats on your pending quit!!! CD - welcome... Let me first say that being around people who will support your Quit is so very important... Not sure why your friend said what they did, so let that go... really let it go. Your Quit is yours - OWN IT, and protect it w/all you have at all times. One thing that helped me so much is realizing that my Quit, especially at first, is like a newborn baby - it has be held up high when there is danger, it has to be protected from ANY kind of threat or danger... And protect it from anyone or anything that is negative... So w/your friend's comment gone now :) this is a new day - focus on you, on your Quit, on the reasons you decided it's time to Quit. The day to Quit is the day your're ready to Quit. Period... This addiction is nasty, it's powerful, it's frightening how it has a hold on ut, but that hold dissolves once we focus and make the decision that we are taking our power back! So - one moment at a time, you can do this - it matters not what day it is, what matters is that YOU are ready, grounded and focused in your Quit. Stay close to this site and read new and old posts - there is amazing direction and info here, and post and ask for help when you need it. There is one way to stop smoking around here - it's called N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever)... I mean EVER... Make a promise to yourself - that if and when you want to light up -YOU COME HERE FIRST AND ASK FOR SUPPORT and wait for 5 people to answer:) Blessings and congratulations on your decision to freedom!
