Icebergs have very slippery slopes, just like addiction does. Quitting smoking is like standing on the top of an iceberg...we climb to the top...hang on tight and ride it out. With time we float into warmer waters, eventually the ice melts away and we find ourselves swimming in joy and complete freedom. The majority of the iceberg is underwater and not visible, just like our emotions in our quits as we learn to live smoke free. Icebergs can and usually do roll over without warning. Unexpected stress or turmoil happens in our lives and thats when our addiction appears more tempting. Dont give in to junkie thinking..its like walking on thin ice...if you fall in its much harder or even impossible to get out again. Have a plan or better yet several plans in place (use all the tools here at SSC), like life jackets, rowboats and a cold weather survival suits so you can be ready for those emergencies. Icebergs float in the open ocean, just as we sometimes float in life. Quitting smoking is something we all do for different reasons. Write down your reasons in case you find yourself sliding down the ice toward the cold (smoking) water. Your reasons for quitting are like icepicks or oars...use them to hang on to the edge of the ice and then climb back up or paddle yourself back to safety. Knowledge replaces our fear of quitting, like heat melts ice. Know your ice/addiction, use the right tools (search for the ones that will work for you) and youre less likely to slip off your quit/berg. As I remember, an iceberg sank the Titanic because of a lack of knowledge, not enough planning and human complacency. Dig in your heels with your icepicks. Keep your heat handy. Know enough about yourself to stop yourself from sliding. Enjoy the climb and then ride with your eyes open. The view and the fresh air are amazing as I float into warmer waters on top of my addiction. :) Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 202 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,080 Amount Saved: $2,828.00 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 21 Mins: 23 Seconds: 43
