Out of the Comfort Zone

for 14 år siden 0 3875 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi J-virgen! Smoking masks emotion and that is part of the reason people sometimes find it hard to quit! We usually start smoking as a teen and hang onto it for a several years, also making it more comfortable. When we finally figure out that it is really killing us, yes, it is a big step out of the comfort zone. But what we don't forsee, is that we are really going back to our comfort zone we had as a young child, free of cigarettes, free to breathe again, free to feel what we want to feel without the masking effect. We learn how to live again! Welcome to your new life as a non smoker! The dance group was a great idea!
Keeping busy with things like that will go a long way in helping you stay quit! Congrats!

Welcome, j_virgen. You sound like you are well on your way to maintaining a smoke-free life. How long has it been? Yes, you can be helped a long by changes your routines and also bigger aspects of your life, like taking on exercise. Drinking lots of ice, cold water and munching on veggies and sugar-free candy also helps. Setup your stats so that we can celebrate with you. You can do so by going to 'My Profile' near the top of the page and setting up your information. Then you can go to 'Support Group Options' to finish telling us about you. Good luck!

to see it go to youtube and search "Stay Away From the Pack"

Ashley~
I heard about the opportunity through facebook and have seen these before on the news or on the Internet and have always wanted to either be apart of one or at least be there to witness it! I went to an initial meeting/rehearsal and was touched that many people were volunteers, doing this for a good cause because they were negatively affected by smoking themselves or through family members.

I thought to myself "I have to do this."

Great work!

You should be proud of yourself!  What motivated you to do this?

I read somewhere that quitting smoking is helped by changing other aspects of your lifestyle. Sort of like trying to lose weight by starting to run/jog but also to eat healthier. I'm a recent ex-smoker and recently had the experience to join a hip hop dance group that was commissioned to stage a flash mob at a busy Las Vegas shopping center to promote awareness about the dangers of smoking. This was both nerve racking and exciting. After all was said and done, it was one of the best times I ever had.

Not only was this a great experience but I had to push myself out of my comfort zone! Because, essentially that is sort of what smoking is - a comfort zone. Like eating junk food only much much worse. I only hope I can stay away from that habit, especially when I get really stressed! (Maybe I should start yoga or meditation too? Isn't that great for stress?)
