Thank you Lolly, Vincenza,, Shevie, and Ashley for your comments. And now mine:

I am rarely around anyone who smokes.   If I am, it is for a short period and does not affect me.  Sometime I gamble in casinos where smoke is abundant and find that my lungs are sensitive to it and they ache for some time after leaving.  There are no smoking thoughts. I have had my fill of them day in and day out for an eternity.  Glad that they have ended.  Hope you find it in yourself to cut yourself loose.

Shevie,

Congratulations on 6 years smoke-free!  Amazing accomplishment.
Way to stay strong while in close quarters with others' smoking.
What helps you get through those tempting moments?  Even after years of being smoke-free,
I find it interesting that the feeling of nostalgia involving smoking may arise.  Does the feeling get less intense over the years or is it the fact that you can more easily resist the urge?

Congrats again,

Shevie

Congratulations on  your 6 year anniversary!

Sticking to it,

Once in a blue moon I have the same reactions (even 7 years down the line!)...the smell of a freshly lit cigarette gives me feelings of nostalgia...like remembering fond memories in my life.  Do I rush out and buy a packet and smoke one?  Like H***!  Just as I do not try to replicate a fond memory of years gone by.

These feelings are just that...nostalgia...for what we perceived to be a pleasant time in our lives, when,  in fact,  it was a time we were killing ourselves!

It's not so much a 'smoking thought' or a moment of weakness,  or the Nicodemon trying to get into your head.  It is a great time to reflect on your quit, how successful you have been,  and how you can boost your self-esteem with your achievement.

New quitters may find these moments more stressful and tempting, but take heart, with each moment comes more strength.

NEVER LOOK BACK!  THE FURURE IS AHEAD!

Love Lolly.

Shievie,

Silly, silly me.  Got the two posts mixed up.

Shevie,

I was about to reply to your post however your post is gone!  Where did it go?  Anyhow you tell your car poolers to knock it off, take it outside!  I'm curious about your sign-on picture of what looks like two men looking up at a big hole in the roof and others on the roof looking down at the two men below.  What's it about?

Oh, geez, it just dawned on me that it is now June.  I went right past my 6-year quit anniversary and never noticed.  Yesterday I actually posted on a social group that I've been quit almost six years.  Oops!

I've been catching a ride to work and home the past month with a couple of smokers.  Every time I get in their car the little addicted brain cells do what feels like the equivalent of The Wave, complete with cheering.  But when I get out about 15 minutes later that's it, I forget all about it until the next ride.  Freedom and security are wonderful things.

Now and then I get a whiff of someone’s smoke and the smoke has a sweet, pleasant aroma to it; ordinary though the smoke and the aftermath of the smoke on the breath and clothes are real stinking and smelling.  The pleasant part reminds me of happening to be around other people’s children, enjoyed it for the moment however when the moment is over, nice to be able to give them back.

Seems to be little interest in responding to posts; it would be great to see some.  Maybe there is no time or nothing for you to say.  But buddy could you spare a dime and give answer to the question to help those in the quitting times of their lives.

They use to be some debate on this site if one would ever get over smoking thoughts.  If you have a stable quit, you will have an answer to share with the rest of the community.   I will add my answer later on.

Thanks for your replies.
