Just a note on the weight gain don't worry about it too much it'll come off  I put on about 8 pounds in the first couple of weeks I didn't worry about it because I couldn't, I had to give all my thought and focus to getting off the cigs. Now after 4 months I  can look at ways to control my weight. I get up earlier in the mornings and go for walk with the dog during the day every other few hours I do 10 min of  light exercise and I am careful about what I eat, In the evening I walk or cycle for a hour. I have lost about 3lb for the last 2 weeks that is 6 lb so you see it will come off just focus on your QUIT for the moment it'll all come right.

   You're still at the early stages of your quit and you're doing brilliantly so far and you will keep it up, I know that... But, you must not add another stress to your already burdened mind by worrying about putting on the extra bit of weight that all ex-smokers put on at first... You'll have plenty of time after you're more secure in your quit to adjust your intake of carbs and calories and get exercise ( I'm at a loss there since I can't exercise very well with my ankles and knees so screwed up with arthritis...)
 
Stay cool and focus on killing off that crappy addiction before you tackle the weight issue...

  I know it must seem like crazy weight-gain for somebody like yourself who has been a gym-enthusiast for a lifetime but the 8 lbs is nothing... you are stopping the smoking  and that's all you need to worry about right now ( 80 days is fine!)

Two things seem to cause this weight gain. First, your body metabolism slows down when you quit, so you don't need as much food as when you were smoking. Second, you may use food to replace cigarettes and end up eating a bit more than before.

Tips to avoid gaining weight while maintaining a quit:
Eat healthy, tasty, well-balanced meals as much as possible. Avoid fad diets.

Since food may taste better after you quit, you may want bigger helpings. Try to eat the same amount as usual.

Nicotine withdrawal can cause constipation. Drink lots of fluids.
Eat low-fat snacks like crackers, fruits, veggies or toast, instead of donuts, candy, or potato chips.

Moderate your use of alcohol. Keeping your hands busy with smoking may have slowed up your drinking before. Without a cigarette, your rate and number of drinks may increase along with your weight.

Get up and get moving! Physical activity can help to counteract any weight gain.

Start with a small achievable goal. Example: Walking 10 minutes everyday. Once you’ve gotten into the routine, change the activity goal. Example: Walking 20 minutes everyday, attending a fitness class once a week, join a sports team, take up a hobby that gets you moving like rock climbing or dancing.

What is key to remember is that increasing your level of physical activity requires changing your routine, therefore selecting a goal that is in tone with your current lifestyle in the beginning makes it a more manageable change and thus more sustainable over the long-term.

The weight gain has really been an issue for me this whole time.  Be careful to eat  only when hungry and when you snack, keep it to
healthy like carrot sticks and sugar free candies and loads of water.  I have worked real hard at this and still gained 8-10lbs in
about 80 days.  I have always been an avid exerciser and feel that if I hadn't I would have gained more.  From what I've seen on this site
everyone gains and it usually takes about a year to even back out with our metabolism.  I'm going to bump my weight gain thread for
you both to laugh a little.

I totally feel your pain.  I feel 20lbs heavier than I did 4 days ago (wow, I'm on day 4, hehe).  I keep eating so much and feel so heavy.  I think the "feeling" of being heavy is probably from not being used to eating this much, and not being used to having a "full" belly all the time.  It's like being bloated.  But we should stay focused on the quit, and not the weight right now.  I'm giving my self a free pass up to 10lbs while I'm quitting.  If I put on over 10lbs, then I will start focusing on dieting too.  But I'd rather have an extra 10lbs than black lungs.  Good luck, and post often, I'm cheering for you!

    As you read more and more posts, you will notice that MOST of us here have also gained weight since we quit that nasty habit!!!  When we quit, our metabolism slows down and our systems are able to absorb more nutrients from the food we eat.  Consequently, the weight gain!!!   If you're also drinking a lot more water, as many here have also done, part of the weight gain could very well be  attributed to the water!!!     Exercise more, try to eat healthy, count calories if you choose, and read all of the posts in this weight gain topic!!!  There is some real helpful information here!!!   The main thing to remember is to NOT SMOKE!!!  Get you quit under control the best way that you can and work on the weight loss some time down the road!!!
 
   The most important thing right now is to focus on being a NON- SMOKER!!!  That is your main goal right now, RIGHT!!!      Keep that great quit going!!!

It seems that in the past 9 days I have gained a lot.  It just does not seem possible to gain that much that fast.  Could it be water weight?
I feel like a blimp!!    HELP HELP!!!!!!!
