question about what is happeneing to me

for 18 år siden 0 12 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks Missy, Marie and Casey, That's exactly the perspective I was looking for. I wondered how the nicotine was comparring to my regular smoking, and how much of this was my mental addiction. I do definetely think these patches help to take the edge off. I can't think in the long term at this point, it is to overwhelming. I am just thinking "I will not smoke right now". I am considering a doctors visit as I haven't had a check-up in a while anyway. I plan on discussing these things with her too. But I am determined! This time will be a winner. I will not give up, as So many others here aren't giving in. This place is great! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hey everyone, I am now at day 5. A very very rough few days, but I haven't smoked. Yipey for me! I had a 2 pack a day habit for years. I am using 21 mg patches. My question is this. The desire to smoke is SO SO overwhelming. I crave it SO badly. But if I am using the patches, is it the process of smoking, feelings, habit etc, or is it the nicotine my body wants? If I am using the patches, am I truely experiencing nicotine withdrawl to a certain extent or is it mental? I sure do feel alot of physical symptoms. I am just trying to understand it better. Thanks! I candoit, hi, I used the patch also I started at 21mg and the first 3 days'i went through withdrawal as well, I figured it out this way smoking say 20 cigs a day at 2.5 mg nicotine and cutting to 21 mg nicotine that would be 8 cigs we are bound to go through physical symptoms. But it's different for everybody, I think it would be harder without the patch, the withdrawals would be worse. It takes me around a week to adjust to the patch then it gets easier. Drink a lot of water this helps, you can do it one day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,222 Amount Saved: $324 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 17 Mins: 50 Seconds: 57

Try something to simulate the hand to mouth---like the straw---I used that also. I also use a lot of sunflower seeds during a crave, which in turn makes me thirsty, so I drink more water! By the time I suck the salt off of a mouthful, crack the shell, eat the seeds, discard the shells and take a swig off my water bottle, the crave has passed most of the time. If not, repeat.... After a really bad day your tongue is so sore you concentrate on that pain instead of the pain of a crave! :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/23/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 525 Amount Saved: $80 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 56 Seconds: 45

Hi Icandoit! Just keep the attitude that your name represents and you will be successful! The first week is not called "hell week" for nothing. Stay strong and determined. The cravings will pass in time. For now, accept the way that you are feeling and do whatever you need to do to stay smoke free....take hot baths, take alot of walks, lie on the sofa and vegetate. The only way we can quit is to never take another puff. You CAN DO IT! Hi icandoit, Unfortunately, the patches will not relieve your cravings completely. It only reduces the intensity of them. You took in much more nicotine when you smoked...much much more than the 21mg that you're getting with your patch....so you will feel nicotine withdrawal. However, the mental part plays in there and is probably the most influential. If you're strong and prepared mentally, then you can get through the worst of any craving. Get those coping skills ready and try to keep your mind distracted. Your cravings will ease. Keep on going through them and keep focused on that light at the end of the tunnel. I used the patch and they worked very well for me. If you find that you're still craving strongly in a couple of weeks, you may want to re-evaluate if it's the right method for you. Some people do better without them. Keep posting and reading...and let us help when we can :) Congrats on day 5! Hell week is almost over.
