Lost in this addiction

for 18 år siden 0 60 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi everyone, I am having strong desires to smoke right now. Its funny because I just came from someones house and had a discussion on why I quit and how I dont want to be an addict anymore and a prisoner to smoking and here I am with this strong desire. I already know why I should quit and why I am quitting but I tired of feeling lost and imcoplete and not being satisfied after I eat. I just keep eating because I feel something is missing. dont get me wrong I am not about to run and buy a pack. I do know one will not be the answer and will only cause me to relapse. I just want this feeling to be over and not crave or want or feel like I am missing something. I dont like this feeling. just needed to vent. Morningglory, what a beautiful name and I love the flower also. On day 99 I thought I was going to cave in. But it was the situation I was in. It was Easter Day, I had 20 some people at my house. Well they started coming on Friday and some of them stayed untill Monday around noon. It was around 1:30pm, the people that was smoking was outside but I could still smell the smoke, and see them smoking. Well I had to go to the bathroom lock the door and lay down on the floor and do some deep breathing for probabley 5 minutes. Then I lay there for another 10 minutes just meditating. Then someone started knocking on the door wanting to know if I was okay. I managed to say yes, and pulled myself together and came out. That was almost my breaking point. I had just finished telling several about quitting smoking and the old nico-demon jumped right on it. This time I won, but we always have to be prepared and know how to handle those horrid cravings. Hold on tight and stay close to the site, I didn't have the time to come to the site and wait for people to give me encougagement and advice. I had to do it myself. And you will find that you may be in the same situation sometime. I pray that you don't. Blessings sent your way..... :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 103 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,762 Amount Saved: $360.5 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 21 Mins: 45 Seconds: 23

Hi Morningglory, hang in there girl. I went through similar feelings of missing something. It happened for me around day 45. I felt down, blue, and all the colors seemed to have left my life. I sort of felt,.... o.k. now what? But I stayed strong, just like you are doing and the feelings did pass after about 2 days. Come here as much as you can and tell us when you're feeling overwhelmed and tired. Look at you, 50 days tomorrow, now that's something to celebrate!!! Is there something you love to do that you could reward yourself with? I find shopping hits the spot when I want a nice reward. Take care of yourself and never forget how great you have done!! Morningglory... I can help you here! First of all congrats on the 49 days! AWESOME. Here is what you do about the eating thing.... When I quit someone said that when we smoked, smoking was the way of telling the brain that we were finished eating.... Make sense? Sure it does. So we have to find something else that tells the brain we are finished eating. I used peppermints. Everytime I finished eating, I popped a peppermint in my mouth. Every once in a while I will crave a peppermint after I eat but not a smoke! It really worked for me. Maybe it will for you too. Part two. Around day 50 I had a few days that were really tough and I was tired of fighting too. Just like you said. Well it is almost like it was the last stand of the nicodemon. I almost caved in but others told me to hang on and real soon it was going to get easier. They were absolutely correct. So I'm telling you to hang on because you are almost at that point that the quit gets much easier. I hope this helps. morningglory, I understand what you are saying... this is a tough addiction to overcome and after nearly 50 days fighting almost constantly, you get really tired. I completely understand. Someday, probably very soon, you're going to find that you are comfortable with your quit more often than you crave. That's a great feeling when it happens. And if you ride the storm a little longer, that WILL happen for you! As far as eating, after several years training your mind... eat, then smoke... eat, then smoke... it takes a while to adjust to not smoking after eating. But, just like any other trigger, the more you do it without smoking, the easier it will become. What I suggest is to substitute the cigarette with something else... some use a piece of cheese, like string cheese or something. Or a certain (low cal/low fat) desert, or a cinnamon stick or a piece of hard candy or a stick of gum... something that you can do after EVERY time that you eat. Soon, your body will crave that instead of a cigarette because you will have trained your mind. I hope that works for you. Keep it up! You're almost 1/2 way to the beach! Crave the Quit! morning, This is normal and it will pass. Have your coping mechanisms ready and go over your reasons to keep quit. You can do this and know that we are very proud of your 49 days, you should be too! Hope this helps, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
