How true that is. You never know when a crave is going to hit and we must all be ready to say NO. As hard as that may seem, NOPE has to be in our heads 24/7. Thanks for the bump :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,090 Amount Saved: $215 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 14 Mins: 50 Seconds: 29

I think this the toughest part of the quit when it comes right down to it. With decades of conditioned responses almost every thing that happens triggers an urge to light up. So you really do have to be prepared with something to counter it. Thanks for the bump. Good information. I realized that I was heavily, physically addicted. The withdrawals were just awful. I think the physical habit is the addiction part. However, as I made my rounds this morning, I realized that each routine and situation called for a coping mechanism, because I had habits. I realized what was so difficult about breaking the habit is that I do not just have one habit. I have a habit for every situation, and as I am confronted with each I have to put a coping mechanism into place or devise one. So I know that I will not come across some old situations for months, and will probably be tempted to smoke when I do. Yep, for every smoking memory you have, it is necessary for you to imprint non-smoking memories on top of them ... until one day you have finally extinguished all those nasty smoking memories. You can do it!!! Hi Brenda You have really hit the nail on the head. This perhaps is why some people say that you need to go through all 4 seasons to be completely free of triggers/memories/craves. cheers alison :) Kick the Herb to the Kerb My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,441 Amount Saved: $1012.5 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 12 Mins: 51 Seconds: 6

bgaines... they say it takes 12-18 months to become a non-smoker and that we must experience all the seasons without smoking to be comfortable in our quits. Take it one day at a time and one step at a time. Quitting is a process and it involves building a new non-smoking life. You are doing great!
