Another Hurdle

Windy, Good to see you and your stats are looking good! I think it's partially about appetite. When we eat junk food, we want more junk food. When we eat healthy, we want junk food - oh wait :blush: But seriously I find when I am eating healthy, I see junk food differently. I know how sluggish and full I'll feel afterward but once I fall off the cart and start eating poorly I make myself forget all that. We did the same thing with smoking. It may seem like fun to drink and smoke like a train all night but remember the next morning? Head pounding, dry mouth, sore throat, lungs aching and your tongue feeling like someone laid carpet down on it overnight!? There has to be a happy medium. Something you can do that feels reckless but won't actually be harmful. Shopping? You sure have saved a lot of cash since you quit. What about going dancing till the wee hours in a non-smoking joint? Or having dessert every night for a week? I understand "addictive personality". The other night I went to a smoke free casino, won some money, and then stayed until it was all gone again! Didn't really crave a smoke, but did crave a win. Might I suggest this is not a good option for many of us..... Gosh - It's over 16 months and here I am hitting another hurdle. We just returned from an amazing vacation in Mexico. I was soooo relieved that I was not one of those people trying to get as much nicotine into my system before going on the airplane or stressing until I could get my next fix but THEN we went to the resort and there was smoking EVERYWHERE!! It seemed like everybody everywhere was smoking and I was the only one left out. Now for the most part I did okay because there was also an endless supply of food and fizzy drinks which kept me happy but NOW i am back to the real world....and, once again, I am craving SOMETHING!! I have to admit that I miss the days when I could drink and smoke until the wee hours of the morning - I know that is awful....but I do! I just want to be totatlly irresponsible and have fun without thinking about the consequences or about what anybody else thinks... I want to get up and eat from the moment I get up until the moment I go to bed. I want to drink fun frosty drinks....and, yes....a tiny wee bit of me wants to smoke. I do know that this is a phase...and I'm not going to fall off the non-smoking wagon. This whole experience has helped me to realize that I have an addictive personality. I replaced smoking with food and then added exercise so that I could keep eating. However, since going away, I realized that I have felt "hungry" almost all of the time. If I didn't exercise I would be gaining at least 1 lb a week. Do I need some other "new" addictions which are healthier to replace the eating? Is any of this making sense? Has anyone else been here???
