Thanks Davit & Jenn,
It's great to have advice, even though I have to wait until the hardware opens again, since today the streets are busy, and we're still recovering from a near state of emergency.  A leaky shower wand is little to complain about.

Well yes gaskets do not have cracks or spaces so it is either defective or you broke it. A case of assumption on my part since I can't see the part. You should be able to get one in spare parts.

hmmmm…gasket with a space?? Typical gaskets or o-rings for plumbing don't typically have a space.  Perhaps its not the gasket at all but a problem with the threads on the wand???
As Davit said…don't over tighten ….usually just finger tight.

One gasket has a space, which must mean I overtightened and cracked it.  There is a leak there, so I guess I'm going back to the hardware store.

What's amazing is how being engrossed in something can take my mind off of other things.

Luckily, that includes the near near state of emergency in my city.  We're lucky, since I saw some streets without power up to yesterday.

I could be dealing with worse issues, in subzero weather, like burst pipes, finding lodging(like Mary and Joseph on Christmas Eve), failed furnaces.

Maybe it's good I found some silly thing to take my insignifant life away from these possible issues.  Being detail-oriented often is a hindrance, but this time it might be serving a purpose, when I seasonally am having a pity party.

Shower heads are usually pipe thread, a tapered thread that gets silicon thread tape and are tightened about as tight as you could get by pulling the wrench with your little finger. The other end though may or may not have a swivel and it may or may not have a gasket. It is tightened up about the same. It doesn't have to be tight since there is no pressure but tight enough it won't unthread. Gaskets sometimes have a screen. That end might be pipe thread also but not often. What you think is loose may be a swivel. Rule of thumb is if it doesn't leak it is tight enough. In a healthy person that would be hand tight plus about a quarter turn. Mounting brackets are the same, just tight enough to hold, not tight enough to cut any gasket there may be. Again, there may or may not be a gasket.

With the price of lawyers charging for pre-nuptial agreements, I'm afraid I'm just not going to complain as much and suck it up.

As for my stalled project trying to change a shower wand holder, do gaskets ever have a space in them, or did I overtighten something?  I'm afraid I don't know the difference between "snug" and "tight".

Hugs

You need a two legged dish washer and then you won't care if you ache. Get an older model, they are more efficient and quieter. Lots of colours and sizes to choose from. Mind you they can be more expensive.

Unfortunately, when I see Dr Shrink the next time, I'll have less hair, from pulling at it, agonizing over a plumbing issue.

I bought a replacement for the shower wand attachment, and dropped the inside pieces, and am not sure how the gaskets fit together.

What the heck, if it works I'll just use it, with my best guess.  Dropping stuff might be fixed when I see Dr. EMG since he's going to look at my hands, which have been beaten to a pulp from keyboarding, washing dishes , cutting food.

I was actually thinking of getting a dishwasher, with the next place I live.  Or I could learn to be more efficient with dishes, pots, pans.  I pay for using them at the end of the day

I can't because I don't fit. I have no coach or guru. I am equal to my fellow man in that I know things they don't and they know things I don't. Like I can build a better candle stick than you but you lay out a better spread sheet. My friend Richard knows more about sheep than me but I know more about welding. I go to my therapist for information and she is not my hero other than I'm impressed and respect her. The feeling is mutual. So I can't participate. I have no lists or actual plans. There are things I want to do , but I pull them out of the air and do them when it is appropriate. And I am aware people don't live like this. People need more order. I don't anymore. Like tomorrow, I have an appointment with the Doctor. If the road is good and if I feel like it I will shop. No list, no deadline, no pressure.

Davit.

I really am different. But I'm happy this way.
