I need an "outside the box" solution. I have tried a few revered organizational methodoligies - Covey, some other guy whose name excapes me at the moment. I've tried analyising my own flaws and tried a few solutions. Just a notebook day by day that everything goes into. Sort it out at the end of the day into other books - things to do, research, projects to be done, staff work to be done. Then I forget or run out of time to do the sorting at the end of the day and I am lost again. But that was the most successful. PDA's don't work well for significant amount of use. I've been told that some of the drugs I am taking definitely negatively impact memory. So I think I need to do what I usually do, grab the items by the horn and solve the problem. But I could use some fresh ideas.... Suzy

Members, Current research does indicate a link between depression and memory loss. This memory loss does seem to recover as the illness does. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Thanks for all of the feedback. It is funny how misery loves company - I do feel better knowing I am not the only one. I guess I will have to be more diligent about note taking. I think I find it especially difficult because I had such a great memory before all the drugs...

day timers, sticky notes, reminders via cell phone... i have to use them all, every day. i spend a lot of time using these things, writing things down, making lists, anything to help my memory especially for work. in my particular job we use a lot of forms- i've made "cheat sheets" for most of them- i fill out a blank form with notes and comments in the margins so that i can refer to it if i forget what goes where, i've made master lists for other parts of my work (for example: new client file- lists all the paperwork that goes into into it, where it goes etc...) this way i don't have to go ask my supervisor 27 times how to do something. I too have a hard time remembering some of the same details from my second childs earlier life that i recall from the first. i think part of it is "normal" second child syndrome- it'ok. it sucks though doesn't it? i've actually forgotten about this site!! hopefully just cuz its still new to me- but yes, its true! thankfully it comes back to me!!! i really am beginning to feel a sense of community here, it feels incredible to have others understand me. thanks Patrick for the wonderful post! you are beautiful as well!!

Hello everybody, Just wanted to say that I used a daily agenda/diary (pocket/wallet sized) to keep track of everything from appointments to calls I needed to deal with to birthdays and shopping lists and so on; this was when I was a working stiff in education and the Big Corporation before I retired. That DayTimer was never away from my right hand - like, I had a packet of cigarettes and a lighter and my Daytimer before I left the house. It served me well and I always gave the semblance of being 'on top of things' to the people I lived and worked with. Not only depressed but hungover during office hours, believe me I needed to keep written track of most everything in my messed up life at that time. That's how I dealt with a Swiss Cheese memory. I was laughed at in Saudi Arabia where I was teaching; the kids thought I was very funny to carry around something that only Saudi women carried around! Hah! There's always some smart ass out there willing to try to burst one's bubble! Patrick

Hi all, I hope not to fade away. I haven't done anything like this before either. And it is easy (and on some days necessary) for me to miss opportunities to post. Between working, family, a couple of social activities and my mood of the day, there isn't always time. I have found some interesting points of view here. Both agreement and food for thought. Encouragement. All good things. I also want to start the CBT but haven't yet plucked up the courage and/or commitment to do so. I'll get there I'm sure. Just not sure when. I have a lousy memory craZ. People tell me stories about my family that I just don't remember. I have to take their word for it. But I find it more of an urgent problem with work. I have a heck of a time keeping track of everything, tracking many things at once, learning what I need to learn and keeping it in my head for daily use. That is giving me real grief and my psychiatrist has been absolutely NO help with this. Ideas? Suzy

I am still anxious about using the support group (I have not done anything like this before) so I appreciate your little nudge. My psychiatrist is currently in the process of changing my meds and I am definately missing them. I have no energy and no motivation. I haven't worked in almost 2 weeks now - which is a problem because I run my own business! The support group has provided me with some focus and I have been trying to keep up with my homework. Does anyone else find that they forget EVERYTHING! I am feeling like my head is full of cotton. I have been very upset for the past couple of days because I am having trouble remembering my 5yr old as a baby. I can remember lots about my 7yr old because I had him before I really started to lose my mind. We were watching home movies with family and having a great laugh. There wasn't as much video of my youngest (2nd child syndrome) and I started to panic that I would forget everything. Will my memories eventually come back or are they lost forever...

Hi Patrick, What a great post! We couldn't agree more! The right kind of support can truly make a difference. Everyone here understands what it is like to experience depression. Fellow members, feel free to jump in and share your thoughts and experiences. Sometimes, just reading and posting can be beneficial to your mood and it can be comforting to know that you are not alone. Casey ___________________________ The DC Support Team
