Quote of the Day Part Two

for 11 år siden 0 6252 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I do not agree with that quote.

Yes if you do something difficult the accomplishment may be more than something routine but the pleasure from the two is still short lived because that is how pleasure is. (not so with pain) If not then why would you be in search of pleasure. So to me it would seem more appropriate to get pleasure from a lot of little things and work on the difficult with the attitude that if it doesn't work it is okay.
Fresh bread is just as good if you use a bread machine (not really) as it would be if you ground the flour and mixed it by hand. I settle for middle of the road and use a Kitchen aid mixer. Same with my coffee, who wants to grind the beans first thing in the morning for that really fresh taste. (I've done that) The left over is little better than ground coffee from a can.

There are so many little things that can give pleasure if you let them. (I'm guilty of not letting them)

It is like being told you are not good enough because your life is not one major accomplishment after another. That is  BS. In the end both are still dead. He with the most accomplishments does not win, he with the most happiness does.

Just my feeling.

If there exists no possibility of failure, then victory is meaningless.

This reminds me of the quote by nobel prize winning chemist, J Polyani, who stated that "...anything worth doing has to be difficult..."

His wife was probably the one stuck doing it so he could do his thing.

The first requisite for success is the ability to apply your physical and mental energies to one problem incessantly without growing weary.

Hi Davit,
I was watching tv, but maybe slowing my pace, as a reward for making some important decisions.  I'd been hard on myself, so I felt entitled.

Tomorrow I'm going to a lecture, as part of my commitment to get out on sundays regularly for a few weeks.  The following week, I've found another lecture series on fridays, as part of a way to get out again.  It's been a desolate couple of months

Arthritis. I never get so low I can't move. But I do have my joints so sore I can barely move them. Today is a Tramadol day, so nothing that requires concentration. Just gluing candle sticks together. Which Sunny doesn't like so I won't have to make a bunch of them. She is back, me and the dog picked her up at the bus at 6 in the morning. I'm retired so that is early for me. Flare is continuing but not as bad, at least I could get to the car.
Come to think of it, people do get so depressed they can't move. Not me, I just get mad, mostly with myself.
I'm in a good mood, do I sound otherwise?, it could be the Tramadol talking. I'll have to watch that.
Making stuffed peppers for supper and banana bread.
Depression and arthritis go together usually with high blood pressure thrown in for good measure. I've been tested a number of times and always come up not depressed. At least not chemically. I take a small amount of trimipramine (smallest dose available) it does help with the pain. An SSRI would work also but I can't take them. My shrink says it is too low to affect mood, maybe I should increase it. It is hard to be in pain and not get grumpy. I try not to share it but sometimes it just slips out.

Anyway I better get cooking. It will be time to glue more pieces soon.

By the way, what are the rest of you doing to keep occupied. Not watching TV only I hope.

Davit,
Are you talking about arthritus?  Sometimes I can't tell the difference between that and a low mood.

Can anyone distinguish the difference?

Lucky is the person who can distinguish the difference between wants and needs. Also lucky is the person who can afford needs with a little left over for wants.

I have a friend who can't and doesn't. Money burns a hole in her pocket and unfortunately most of it goes for the interest on her visa. Betty can't stop and it does depress her.

The grass may well be greener on the other side and probably is. No law says you can't lean on the fence and look at it.

I have only one desire and that is to be able to be busy every day. Yesterday I had a flare so bad I could hardly move. The pain is not so bad as the loss of time on my project. I'm still sore but I think I will try to go back to work on it. The only rush on it is that I have something else I want to try.

I suppose knowing the difference between wants and needs is important. I learned a couple of weeks ago, that I have some inner goodness, although I might get upset sometimes.  I was having a bad day, but made it a point to take out this emergency kit with a warm blanket in a first aid bag, anyway.  It's as though some goodness is "innate", but the "grass seems greener on the other side", so I'm having trouble justifying my simple, principled life

You can change your beliefs so they empower your dreams and desires. Create a strong belief in yourself and what you want.

I do research tools before I buy them. But even at that it depends on what I'm going to use it for and whether accuracy is really important. In most of what I do it is. So I end up spending a lot even if some advertisement says theirs is as good for half the price. It never is. And it shows in your work. Lee valley is an example of making you think you need something you don't. I do buy from them but not their status tools just so I can say I have something. On the other hand I do find their mid line very good so why go higher.

There is so much out there saying you have to have this or that. I replaced a wore out tractor with a functional cheaper brand because it works for what I want and it will be around long after I'm not. It doesn't mean I wouldn't have preferred another John Deere.

Are you happy with what you have? I am for the most part and I think those companies are more successful than I think. There is still stuff I'd like that I don't need. And stuff I need that I can't afford. The makings of stress.

Davit.
