Panic attacks

for 11 år siden 0 11226 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
The fastest way? hmmmmm this is a tough question. CBT is a proven effective way at treating anxiety but not sure if the fastest. To be honest, fast, quick treatment might not be the best thing to be looking for. Overcoming anxiety take time, you need to systematically pin point and challenge negative core beliefs and this can take time. Also, like with any change, there is usually set backs and these can take time to fight through. I'm not saying this to discourage you but it is important to have a realistic understanding; change takes time.

If you would like some information on immediate coping strategies you could take a look at the sections on Relaxation Techniques and Worry but I also encourage you to work on the entire program.

Thank you everyone. This site is the best! It helped me alot.

When I get panicky I really just change my thoughts process and think positive and accept every feeling and symptoms as as normal.

It really is mind over mood. Everyday I try to build that cake using all the ingredients and tools I need. It's been working so far but it's still a long recovery. But I know I've made progress so I'm proud of myself. You really have to tell yourself to not let panic and anxiety conquer you, and that you are still in control for yourself mentally and physically.

Naa

It is called an eight ball zucchini and like all the zucchini it will grow huge if allowed. Around four inches is just right for stuffing. I stuff them and then half boil half steam it on the stove in a pot with water most of the way up it or till it tries to float.

Thats right with the right ingredients and a little pinch of this and a little pinch of that you can customize this program and make it work for you...

One more tip I would like to pass on again is one that was given to me by a very wise educator here named Josie and that is to take your time and relax with the cbt. To use the forum if  you wish and keep the information or advice that you receive in the forums that helps you and to leave the rest...Only you know what helps or works for you..
This was one of the best tips of advice that I have ever received in this forum and I use it whenever I am reading or posting here..

You can't build a cake with just one ingredient. Even if you could just eat it by itself, it still would not be a cake. Filling as it might be. CBT is like that. There is more than one ingredient. The ten Questions is one of them as are a lot of other things and put together they do make a cake. Customized to our needs. Leave anything out and you won't get a cake even if you can eat it and even if it is filling you will still long for the cake you could have had. Keep trying for the cake, It is so much better than a couple of eggs or a handful of flour.

Do take the time to do the sessions - they do help. I am feeling a little better afetr completing a couple of the sessions. I know I still have a long way to go though.

Hi cara,

Hi I agree that lots of stress can cause anxiety and panic at least in my case it does. I can't speak for others though..I even get PTSD from to much stress and anxiety..Like last nights nightmares for instance, all because of stress caused anxiety..

I have been visiting this site for several years and can't think of any quick fix except for maybe the 10 question list.
I think it is mentioned in sessions 2 or 3 once you have read these sessions things are given to you in your tool box to use if you want to use them..When ever you read and finish a session you get more in your tool box..What I did was read all the sessions in one setting and I was then give access to all the worksheet etc in my toolbox at once..Than later I went back and read the sessions at leisure and worked on them in a way that suited me and my situation best..and I never did all the home work either. Mostly I used the 10 question list to challenge my negative and anxious thoughts when having anxiety or panic and them started doing exposure work very slowly to help me with my agoraphobia..It took lots of time, patients, perseverance and yes tolerance, but it payed off big time..and yes I did have to be careful when giving or taking advice here in the forums and and make use what was helpful to me and discard the rest.  Remember to follow my instincts because you know you best and you also know what it best for you too..So my advice to you is to take your time with the sessions, post if you want to, and most of all remember to be gentle with your self..

Take care,

Cara

No that is wrong. Stress and anxiety are a normal part of life and do not cause panic attacks directly. They do weaken your resistance and allow your negative attitude to open you up to your triggers. But it is still you that causes the panic to become an attack. CBT works directly on you not on the surrounding stress or anxiety. You can remove both of those and still have attacks. You can have panic attacks in a perfectly peaceful situation because it is not the situation that causes them it is your thought patterns. Everything else is just a trigger. And no, removing the trigger will not stop them, you will just find another trigger.

Beware of sites selling books on how to reduce stress and anxiety, They will not cure panic attacks. Like the pills they will leave you a zombie or worse a rabbit scared of your shadow. Beware of half baked ideas that sort of work only and only for a while. Like the pills all of these only work for a while. There is only one cure for Panic attacks and that is changing thought patterns. Everything else is only an adjunct to make it easier. Believe me I went down all these wrong roads. There is only one book that is any good and it mirrors this site so why pay for something you can get free.

I do not have panic attacks any more. I have anxiety and buckets of stress, physical and mental and some times for a few minutes I even panic but I do not have panic attacks. Ever. I have control and that is the best it gets no matter what some phoney Doctors selling books tell you.

Feel free to disagree with me and feel free to waste years, and I mean years looking for a magic cure.
There are none and there are no tips there is only one solution and unfortunately a lot of people can not or will not do it.
Which makes me wonder why I am here. I'm as cured as cured gets for the majority of people that stick it out. I know what works and what in the long run is a waste of time.

I have wrote a short book on this but won't publish so it can sit on a shelf. CBT is not easy for some but it does work for all. All that stick to it that is.

For all the people reading this that disagree, what has cured you other than CBT. I'll gladly prove you wrong. I'll gladly prove your cure is nothing but a bandaid covering up a problem. And it won't cost you anything, I'm not trying to sell my book.

Cara, I am sorry there is no easy answer for you, but this is not Cancer it is curable. But it takes time and you can not bend it to your way of thinking. You must follow it, let it lead. And that was hard for me because I am not a follower.

After doing ALOT of research about panic attacks and anxiety. I learnt that panic attacks can happen from stress or having so much anxiety.

I wanted to know what the fastest way to conquer panic attacks and how you can live daily without fearing them. Does anyone have any tips?
