Hi Madirain,

I am sorry you are feeling this way. Please know anxiety is the most treatable of all mental health conditions. Begin working on the program and you will likely see a difference within the first few session.

Have you had a chance to get started? Any questions so far?

Welcome Madirain.

My triggers seemed so obvious that I never looked further. And mine were more consistent so I thought I knew what they were. But after learning about core beliefs I started to dig and found some things hidden to me that were triggering the things that I thought were the triggers. Core beliefs take a lot of work to change but if they are what are triggering your reaction then they have to be accepted as a fact of life and/or changed. They can't be changed unless you accept them first.

There is nothing wrong with me that isn't age related and I know this but it doesn't stop me from at times thinking otherwise. CBT has let me have these thoughts and not have them become triggers. They are just thoughts like the sky is blue and grass is green. Just thoughts to think and discard. How do I know grass is green and the sky blue? I was told it is and it is in my memory. And I believe my memory. Why do I have triggers? Because something I stored in memory says they belong. This is core beliefs. Negative ones cause panic. Positive ones control how we function through memory in a positive way. GAD was once thought to happen random and for no reason, more to do with personality than anything concrete. I believe there are actions in the past that we try to block for various reasons that cause hidden core beliefs. Given the right situation (trigger) they cause a reaction without showing themselves as most core beliefs do. Core beliefs are like silent elves doing there work without being noticed unless you look for them. And most times there is no reason to. They can do damage if they are negative. They can be hard to change if they were installed by some one you trusted, yourself or others or a believable situation. (trauma)
Scary to think that your past is controlling your present and your present will become your past and control your future. But that is how CBT works. Change your thought patterns and the new thoughts become the past and control how you think in the future. In essence becoming the core beliefs that dictate your life. It takes time for them to bury the unwanted thoughts and that is why CBT is thought to be ongoing. It isn't really. Once new thoughts are established it becomes just a tool to use when necessary which you will most likely do sub conscious and not even notice like you do with new core beliefs. Life just changes and done right it changes for the better.
It did for me, but not over night although there was relief overnight.

I really believed I finally had control of my GAD; however im still experiencing reflux, excessive burping, funny sensations in chest, stomach dropping and the odd palpitation which really triggers anxiety sometimes into full blown panic!  I have been to Dr as well as Urgent Care.  Have had 2 EKGs, full blood work numerous times.  Also had my thyroid checked,  xray, 24 hr heart monitor, H. Poli testing all clear.  The heart palpitations always seem to happen when im experiencing the digestive upsets and even though my Dr told me they are most likely related due to the gas/acid irritating the vagus nerve it still freaks me out.  Of course the more I freak out the worse it gets!  These symptoms have decreased compared to what they were,  sometimes going days even weeks without any indigestion or heart palp and that's why it freaks me out so much when it comes back.  This is definately my trigger.  I am so afraid the Drs have missed something :(
