Heart issues or Not

Hi Ashley, What's important is that there are so many experts to distinguish these issues, and that website was just for my interest.

Interesting resource Hugs thanks for posting!

Many people with anxiety disorders have heart palpatiations and sometimes this can be confused with a heart attack. So understanding the sounds of the heart can potentially eleviate a lot of anxiety.

It's easier during the summer to have the better foods, isn't it? I barely passed my first test, but it's inspring to know what docs/nurses/etc know! I took half an hour to set water sprinkler, so I think it's time to change that, and the hose. Maybe I shouldn't feel so bad about my grade, but I'm not trying to impress anyone, just be a better caregiver...

I was told that I have a heart murmur about 11 years ago. Two years ago I was told that I have a thickened heart which means a enlarged heart and stiffening of the heart. So it is important that I watch my salt intake so it does not put me into congestive heart failure again and it is also important that I stop and let myself rest when I am tired and of course keeping any unnecessary stress in my life to minimum is very very important too..

They say that too much stress can be a killer.
I would have to agree..

I slipped up today, since I had meals with some salt. Some turkey had salt, but it's so convenient in as processed food. Then I bought a wonderful pizza, and forgot to "hold the anchovies"...

My murmur is rather small and I've seen it on ultrasound. That is the only time I've heard it. I've had it for a while.

I've been working in the cardiology field for 9 years...and hate murmurs.  I can identify if someone has a murmur (if it's really obvious) or not....but can't identify the murmur very well (ie Aortic Stenosis, MVP, etc.).  Luckily, for my job, I only have to determine if someone has a murmur or not....then I get the doctor (or echo tech) to determine what type it is.

I have a murmur, I also have high blood pressure and a fast heart rate. I know also that salt will raise my BP. I have three BP meds. A diuretic for when I get water retention from the salt. A beta blocker for the fast heart rate and an angiotention inhibiter if My BP is up due to anxiety or anything else that causes the arteries to tighten up. I don't take all three. The Beta blocker is once a day. The diuretic is only when my weight goes up and the last is seldom, but is reserved for the rare time when My BP goes through the ceiling.
Anxiety shouldn't be shrugged off if the symptoms don't subside in 15 minutes with rest. Medication should be taken to get it back down. Benzo's will do this if it isn't to high.
It isn't called the silent killer for nothing. So whether it is actual or just stress, get it back down.

If I wanted to appreciate how docs determine whether a heart has an issue versus being a bit(or a lot) anxious, the U. of Michigan has a website which helps interpret heart sounds(http://www.med.umich.edu/lrc/psb/heartsounds/). Sometimes docs actually try to make sounds, like auto mechanics, to explain something, but I'm equally intrigued. I used it to help continue in an online course on cardiology. It certainly helped me appreciate the medical field, and the difference between evidence and emotions!
