Wheezing: Anxiety or Lung issue?

for 9 år siden 0 6252 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
If it is anxiety then I would do what ever works even if it shouldn't since the object would be to break the cycle.

I had a good Christmas and hope you did too. Traditionally since I'm usually alone I cooked a cornish game hen.

Davit, I'll have to experiment, since it seems that dust affects me even if I used a good facemask, and swimmer's goggles, which should keep everything out. Hope you enjoy Christmas

It is an odd thing. For years I had trouble with dust. I used a puffer to no avail and decongestants. Now all I use is a saline spray. Tests showed there is nothing wrong with me. A cortisone spray helped but it is expensive. A535 helps but that is just Placebo effect. Still it helps. What works is Lemon Balm Tea. It works on neurotransmitters calming the urge to wheeze. A benzo would do the same thing but Lemon Balm has no side effects. It doesn't work for Karin but she has Asthma. A puffer works for her. I guess you will have to find what works for you.

Hi Ashley, I think it's just dust. I was annoyed with no asthma being registered, when a doc measured me, but I suppose being allergic to dust is another explanation. The other thing that annoyed me is that he asked me to come in when I'm wheezing, and of course he's never available when it happens. Being allergic to dust is something which I can live with. On a night like Christmas Eve, I wish I was in a mood for some jolly laughing, but with mom having passed so recently, it's just harder. And I don't have fish thawed, and the fish store closed early today(or ran out). I guess I could thaw the fish, or cut myself some slack, or have beans, instead. Too many choices, no mom...

Hi hugs,

Do you notice when you wheeze hugs? What triggers it?

I don't think I have asthma but some times I feel I can't get my breath. Because of all the collapsed and fused vertebrae my back is a bit short and if I eat too much my lungs feel cramped. Not much but enough to make me anxious. The last two people to stay with me had Asthma. All I can say is that I'm glad I don't have it. I once got to see the valves in my heart on ultra sound and to hear the blood flow. They were looking for damage from infection.
I wonder if there is anything that has not been at some time associated with panic.

I have wheezing when I get sick and my asthma kicks in....and it has nothing to do with my anxiety.  Heart murmurs don't really cause wheezing...unless the valve problem is so severe that you've gone into congestive heart failure (but that isn't really what we call "wheezing") or something acute has happened (ie ruptured tendon that keeps the valve closed).

Hugs

Wheezing is common as is the inability to swallow or eat and a bloated feeling. Sub clinical (very small) doses of a benzo are prescribed for this but I find Lemon Balm tea works just as well. On the other hand, wheezing is just annoying and not being able to eat just causes weight loss.

A heart murmur has a slushing sound. It is a valve that doesn't close all the way. It is common in people over fifty. The sound comes from blood flowing back into the heart through the valve. It causes a slight rise in pulse and subsequently blood pressure to compensate. I have one. Any doctor or nurse can hear it.

Just as I left the posting, I realized I could record the sound on my phone, but.... Murphy's Law prevailed. The wheeze disappeared. Maybe my chuckle, realizing I'd found a solution, countered the emotion, and it's not a lung issue!

I wonder if anyone has wheezing, and whether it's ever been connected to anxiety? I have it occasionaly, but the lung doc said he didn't hear it. It's inconvenient, but I could give him another chance. It could be my heart, though, since mom had the sound too.
