Feeling ill

Thanks for answering Cardio,

I give up searching online for answers. Its causing health anxiety. I have enough on my plate without adding that to the heaping serving. :) It took me two days of online research to figure out I was having the health anxiety. For the next week I am just going to stay as low key as possible until my appointment to have the cancer removed.

Will the sinus tachycardia go away...I guess it depends on the underlying reason/cause of the sinus tachycardia.  If it's from the anxiety or your COPD, perhaps when those are under control.  It's also possible the leaky valve and regurgitation could be contributing to it.  In essence, all sinus tachycardia means is your heart rate is above 100 bpm.  There are different types of fast heartbeats....both normal and abnormal.  Sinus tachycardia is a type of normal fast heart beat (like when you exercise or go up the stairs).  That being said...in most people, the heart beat drops during sleep to below 100 (I've seen it as low as 20-30 on some holter monitors).

You are also right that sinus tachycardia feels like a panic attack.  When I first started having problems with anxiety 12 years ago, I went to the ER and my heart rate was over 180 beats per minute (of the normal, sinus tachycardia type, not the "abnormal" fast rhythms)

As for the skipped beats....those are very common.  Most everyone gets them...some people feel them, some people don't.  I get them a few times a day and feel every one I have...where as other people have thousands and don't feel anything.  And actually...you don't skip a beat.  An early beat comes in and resets the "normal" rhythm of the heart.  I see these early beats on babies and on people in their 100s.

I hope you are able to get some answers from your doctor.  Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll try to answer.

Hi Cardio,

Last year in May I started having chest pains and racing heart issues. I had an ekg, Echocardiogram and 24 hour holter monitor test. The nurse practitioner never gave me my test results and diagnosed me with Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia. I changed Drs because I didn't feel I was getting proper medical treatment at that office. I have had a lesion for over 3 months that I was being treated for and New Dr ran some tests. Friday the 13th of March at appointment I learned lesion is cancer and I have COPD. He is especially concerned with my left lung. Recheck on my lungs on Friday the 20th, after a series of antibiotics and I asked if they had ever got my files from previous Drs office and if so what were my test results from all of the tests I had done. This is what Dr told me because I wrote it down as quickly as I could.

"Sinus tachycardia during sleep and Echo showed right side regurgitation in valve with valve prolapse and leakage. He said the sinus tachycardia has a skip beat then goes into tachycardia". The Dr is more concerned about my lungs and the lesion then he is the heart stuff. I can understand that. But the tachycardia feels like a panic attack/ heart attack.. Hence the concern and how to get rid of it. I was a bit surprised by the test results and didn't ask questions I should have asked. I was a bit overwhelmed. He did tell me to take my anxiety meds as prescribed to help with the tachycardia while sleeping.

Since you work in this field, will the sinus tachycardia go away? Because it had until I had a bad reaction to a medication that induced a panic attack, and is now is back in full force. It was back before I knew the results, so its not in my head. Well, now it is. But it was happening for a week before I knew those results. Could this be flaring because of the Cancer and the COPD? I am calling the Dr in morning to ask the questions that I have wrote down like the one I just asked, in regards to it. Can you suggest any other questions for me to ask the Dr?

Eggshells

I am a little confused about your last post....or at least the sinus tachycardia part of it.  I actually work in the cardiology field so know a fair bit about it.  Sinus tachycardia is not usually an issue/medical concern.  It can occur from some underlying condition (ie fever, hypothyroidism, etc).  Why are you concerned about the tachycardia?  And how did you find out about it??

I learned today I have sinus tachycardia while sleeping. It started again right after a reaction to a medication last week. I came to the site to find my post about panic attacks at night to see how I stopped them before. They were from nightmares so I'm at a loss.

If I don't have a nightmare induced panic attack where I change the dream to prevent the panic attack and it is caused from the sinus tachycardia, I'll probably have to go the medication route. I was so hoping to find an alternative way to handle this.

The thoughts I keep having are "this had gone away". I was sleeping well. Now its back and this confirmed sinus tachycardia result is from last year that I never got from my previous Dr. Did the onset happen because of the medicine induced panic attack? Or is it because I am sick and not getting enough oxygen while sleeping?  While at Dr's., I'm listening, but not asking enough questions or the right questions. So here I am confused about "the why" is it back all of a sudden if it was gone before and can I get rid of it without going the medication route since I did before I knew I had this sinus tachycardia.

If that was confusing, I'm sorry.

What I was surprised to hear years ago, was that I can refer to a past event, not just a current event...hang in there

Thanks Hugs and Red,

Trying to take it one day at a time. Still having some issues with the medication and anxiety. Waiting on Dr to call me back today over a medical issue last night. I'm disappointed in this setback, but will be glad for this to be taken care of and to feel better soon. The advanced anxious thoughts form really helped and am doing stacking thoughts also.

Eggs, Thinking ahead, by printing those forms shows you're in control of what you can control. I did the same with some other kinds of forms. Some things we can't just manage though...don't sweat that small stuff.
