You're not alone, Catherine. I've gone to the ER several times and had two full cardiac workups. They found nothing wrong. I have a family history of heart disease, but not death. I convinced myself every time I feel weird that it's a heart attack. I''m still trrying to get a handle on it. Hang in there. You're not alone
I was given an ECG soon after I saw the triage nurse. Then, even though the ECG was normal, I was admitted to the emergency room right away. There they did some blood tests and put in an IV line. Then I stayed there hooked up to heart monitors etc for a while. All the tests came back normal. but they still kept me there for the rest of the day and they did an x-ray and additional blood tests and another ECG. Then when that all came back normal I was sent home.
I still have the pain. It is not always as acute but when it is acute it is quite scary. It becomes difficult to swallow and to breathe and my chest, arm and jaw hurt. It becomes difficult to deal with my normal anxiety let alone the anxiety the pain produces.
Today, the pain is pretty bad. It really is unsettling...
2) As I work in the Cardiology lab at a hospital, I just want to check/inquire what tests they did for you. If you don't want to share this info with me, you don't have to. Hopefully they did some blood work (at least twice) to check for a rise in cardiac enzymes, an ECG and a chest X-Ray (to check for aortic dissection).
Hopefully the chest pain settles down and you hear from the cardiologist soon. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
Sorry to read this. It does sound scary but I am so glad the doctors assured you that there was no immediate danger. Chest pain should always be examined by a doctor but chest pain and jaw pain can also be related to anxiety. Perhaps it is just anxiety related? Have you noticed it worsen during certain times? How does it feel when you try to use relaxation techniques?
I had chest pain and pain down my arm and up my jaw, on the left side. I went to the ER, they admitted me and did some tests for a day. Everything seems fine except that I still have the pain. they tell me it is not dangerous, that all my tests are good.
However, due to a history of heart issues in my family, I will be sent to see a cardiologist. They should call me within the next 14 days.
In the meantime I still get the pain. It's really annoying and feels scary. I keep having to remind myself that it is not dangerous and I am fine… Sigh...
