Hello, my name is Richie.  I reside in West Virginia.  I have been suffering with Anxiety Disorder assoc. with Agoraphobia for almost 20 years.  It has really gotten to the point I cannot leave my home now.  I have tried to contact people, especially Social Security, and no one seems to understand what agoraphobia is.  I do not know what to do?  I need help in finding someone to come to my home, and help me with therapy, medications, etc...

The professionals do not seem to care that I cannot leave my house without having fear and panic.  Yet, they want  me to come to their offices to obtain help.  I do not know what to do.  Anyone know of any information I could find.  Thank You.

Yes I definitely feel as though my mood and my anxiety are impacted by hormonal changes.  I've had certain points in my cycle where it doesn't take much to push me into a panic attack.

I did some CBT with a counsellor some time ago and she explained that imagine that there is a certain point where your anxiety gets to be bad enough to trigger a panic attack.  If you are riding a higher anxiety level generally, then it doesn't take much to reach that point where you will trigger a panic attack.  I think of hormonal changes as influencing that initial level of anxiety so that it might take a little more or less to push you over the edge.

Thank you Davit and Ashley. I will definitely look at those. I have been reading a lot on the Forum and gathering so much useful information here as well. :-)

Hi Kc58,

Welcome and congrats on getting started and already seeing results. I am sorry to hear about your panic attack, that must have been disappointing since you have been seeing so much improvement.

I can say from personal and professional experience that mood and anxiety can certainly be effected by hormones. You might want to check out the Ask the Expert question related to hormones and anxiety. There is some good info here.

Be sure to let us know what you figure out.

On two other sites people have said there is an anxiety connection to their periods, being male I have no idea but they seem for the most part feel their is a connection.

Thank you for your reply. I'm so ready to be through this but I just don't even know where to begin, hence being here and going through the sessions..

I don't really notice if my anxiety increases before or during my period.  I do know my periods have changed over the last couple of years (it's not menopause) since my anxiety has increased dramatically...but I don't know if the two are related or not.

Sorry I can't answer your question.

Hello, I recently started the program and am in week one of the sessions. I have had anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia for several years. I am finally ready to get past this. I felt great all week just from doing the first session. Then yesterday afternoon/evening I had a major panic attack. I rated this one as the worst one I have ever had and am not positive of the trigger. I did start my period today which is kind of the queston I have. Does this happen to other women? Does your anxiety get worse right before your period? I have had little anxiety before my period but last night was unreal. The attack lasted over an hour. Even after taking my as needed medication. I am on a daily medication and also have medication for when I have an attack. Any information would be great. Thank you in advance! KC
