I just got on the computer and your response is just what I needed to read. I think sometimes that I am doing something wrong, but I just can't seem to help with his anger. He tells me that he is really mad at himself, and I feel bad for him. The saddest part about this is that he does have his son and me who would really do anything for him but he chooses to not be with us or let us help him. I think that you are really right when you say that there probably isn't much that we can do; that he has to do it himself. It just must be very difficult for him to deal with alone. Thanks so much for your reply. I was feeling kind of lost tonight, and it was good to read. Thanks again.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do. I suffer from depression and can honestly say that sometimes everything my husband does makes it worse. If he ignores me, I am offended. If he tries to comfort me, I get irritated. Your husband has to help himself. You can be there for him. You can ask him what he wants you to do but he may say that he doesn't know. The most important thing for you to know is that even though he is ill, you do not have to allow yourself to be mistreated. The way he feels may not be his fault (if he is really taking his meds and getting help) but it's definitely not your fault. You may have to tell him that you care and you want to help but don't know what to do. Good luck. By the way, you have as much right to post here as anyone else.

Awhile ago, I found this site and was very excited about having a place to talk about what I was going through. After I had posted a message about my husband and his struggles with depression, I got a response that said they didn't appreciate me referring to depressed people as "them". It was really defeating for me so I quit the site. I am back with a new log on so I am going to try again. My husband was diagnosed with major depression six years agao, was on meds, stopped them, and now he has started the processes over again. He has left the family and says that he is very angry. He finally said that he would start his meds again but the last time I saw him I really don't think that either he is truthfully taking them or they aren't working. It is so hard to try and make things the way they were, and I think that I am wearing out. Thanks for reading this post. I appreciate, really I do, having a place to talk.
