Hi kittcat, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with this medication here with us. Gabs, please don't hesitate to also consult with your local pharmacist about the changes your doctor may be making. They are a great resource for any medication concerns. Hi guys, Is anyone on Amitriptyline and if so on what dose and what side effects? my new N.h.S. phsyc has advised my doctor to change my meds. I had an awful time coming off the medication that i am currently taking a few months ago to try effexor. i had a very bad reaction to the effexor so was put back onto the existing meds. Again they have decided to change. I am very anxious about this, for one, the thought of having to come off my meds again to be clear for a few days scares me as the withdrawel was terrible last time. I am also afraid of the side effects that i may experience with the amitriptyline. My doctor wanted me to start to come off slowly this week but i have said its not a good time for me to be doing this as I have a small back op this Thursday. Also with the stress of Christmas i just dont think the timing is good. She has agreed that i can start to lower my current meds on boxing day, at least getting Christmas and the op out of the way. Just the thought of going through all of this again is making me very anxious and the panic attacks have started up again. I cant sleep, want to cry and i just want to spend the days in bed. I thought that I had got past all of this and was making progress. i am now doing session 6, but have again lost the motivation. non of this is helped by the husbands lack of understanding and even his confession that he has made no attempt to learn about depression or indeed the effects of my medication. He was/is all talk and no action. I feel really let down but would really like to know more about this new drug. x

Hi, I've been on Remeron (Mirtazapine) now for a few months and am slowly building up. I started on 15mg and noticed a difference in the first few days-it started snowing and for the first time in my life, I was HAPPY about it! Usually I want to cry when it gets cold out. My Doctor told me to increase the dose after two weeks to 30 mg. I ran into problems with this. I felt dizzy and agitated. So now I take one 15 mg tab and one 1/2 15 mg tab. This is much better. I think I just need to work up slowly. I have noticed a huge increase in appetite and cravings, though. I really have to watch what I eat, battle my cravings, and exercise frequently. But I'm willing to deal with this since it is obviously helping my depression in a major way.

I'm groggy and slow in the mornings too, courtesy of the Remeron. I'm up to about 25mg now and will be bumping to 30mg tonight. Will see how it goes. The black cloud has lifted from over my head, and while I'm not quite "there" yet I feel closer to being normal than I have in a long time. This is due, in large part, to the Remeron. It is very effective in my case in that it's the only thing so far that has given me any motivation to do anything. Dark night- you mentioned weight gain; I've noticed an increase in appetite (especially for sweets, which is unusual for me) and saw the scale starting to creep up, so I started going to the gym and working out. This is how I know the Remeron is working- I haven't had the motivation to do anything strenuous in years- let alone going to a gym. I was pushing 250 lbs, which isn't that big a deal as I'm just under 6'3, but I didn't want to carry that much weight so I've started watching what I eat and the trips to the gym seem to help. I'm already down to about 240, so I think I can control the weight gain side-effect of Remeron. So far thet's the only lingering side-effect (other than a little drowsiness) I noticed...

Hi Lost1 and Cyn2106, I have been on Remeron (45mg) for the past 8 months) I find it has done me some good. In the mornings I am still groggy and have a weight gain problem. I try to watch what I eat. It takes me a couple of hours to lose the groggy feeling but I find the medication has helped me alot. It hasn't stopped me from having another relapese but I have alot of things going on in my life that contribute to this relapse. I have notice if I have missed night time meds, in the morning I am wide awake, But Remeron helps me sleep and I get very vivid dreams. After getting used to the med, I find it helpful for me. Hope this helps.

Lost, Absolutely! Transitionning between medications can be really tough. Try to keep hanging in there. This is just a bump in the road and your body will adjust. Physical activity or schedulling a pleasant activity may give you the mental boost you need while you wait for your meds to take full effect. Check in again soon. Hi everyone, Well, my head finally cleared a couple days ago, and my doc now has me easing up the dosage of Remeron about 3-5mg per week, and I'm now at 15mg/day. My Wellbutrin is still at 150mg (will bump it up a little later this week & see how I do) vice the 450 I was at before the bad reaction episode. This is not good for me because WB was what was keeping me off the ocean floor. So now I'm more depressed than I have been in months and hate the entire world, but at least I'm depressed with a clear head, if such a thing is possible. Suffice it to say that I'm trying not to drive too much (road rage in the extreme) and my mood is so dark and thick you can almost see the black cloud around me. Man, this sucks...

Hi, I just wanted to tell you about my experience of Mirtazipine (Remeron) because it has helped me tremendously. I was prescribed this drug 3 months ago because I had an allergic reaction to my previous medication. I started off on 15mg a day, and this has been gradually increased to my current dose of 45mg. It has improved my mood a lot and the panic attacks that were a real problem before are now under control. Initially, it did knock me out and make me feel groggy in the morning, but with time I have become used to it and I no longer have these side effects. The secret seems to be increasing the dose slowly and allowing your body to get used to the higher dose. When I increased from 15mg to 30mg overnight, I felt awful. After speking with my Doctor I took 15mg one day, 30 mg the next for 2 weeks before increasing to 30mg every day and then the same when I went up to 45mg. This worked for me, so it really is worth persevering. Hope this helps.
