hey, Brenna,
Thanks for your interest in my son and me! We get along very well and he is okay with me giving him non-aggressive hints on how to do this and that around the apartment - he is very adept at cooking all the things he likes but not so interested in cooking for others... I made him a spaghetti sauce (Bolognese) and he was interested enough to eat the pot-full but only smiled when i asked him if he wanted to learn how to make it...!!
He likes to do the garbage hauling and giving me neck massages and lots of other stuff so long as I don't ask him to do the dishes! I'm okay with all that since it's a fair-ish division of labour... he'll learn soon enough when he has a place of his own... I am training him not to leave the table without clearing his dishes and napkins away...
I found out 4 years ago when he was 14 that acting the Colonel-in-Chief with him was a really bad move.. so I treat him now like a man and he is responding as such... my bad... a lot of which came out of ill-learned behaviour when I was depressed and very irritable...
Daily Llama,
It is great to hear that you have started following some diet advice and that your son with you in Canada. Remember that eating pizza or indulging in high carbohydrate food doesn't have to be bad for you. Just eat it in moderation! If you order pizza then you and your son can make a salad together and have it as a side dish (two pieces of pizza and a salad, instead of 4 pieces of pizza).
You could also turn this into a great bonding period with your son by spending some time in the kitchen together cooking healthy meals. This way you will accomplish two very important things at one; family bonding and healthy eating. Many kids really like to learn how to cook but just don't know it until they try. Why don't you spend a few hours making a pasta sauce with veggies or a vegetarian pizza.
Let us know how it goes.

Wildcat,
Thanks for keeping an eye on my crazy eating habits!
I would walk him around if I could but my ankles and knees are damaged and I have great difficulty getting around. I do use those scooters that Zellers have in my town and we did go shopping together for house stuff last week...
And I came home with two plants also! One ivy and the other a leafy-bushy affair...
3!!! litres....
oh If I could only get two glasses... as it is I take 50 ml with my meds and
Use you son as an excuse to burn the carbs... show him the sights of downtown Canada - shopping malls and all! (indoors and lots of seats to girl-watch)!
I took my kids to the anual x-mas picture for the grandparents and then it was off to IKEA! what a work out going through all the nice things there and only buying a kettle!!!! there was sooooo much impulse to impulse shop!!!! and I dragged myself out with a kettle and two (1.30$) baby plants. I put them on the kitchen table and as I eat they remind me "moderation"
if you want to check out some of the nice things they are on the Ikea website...
Now that my son's here for the Christmas I've been using his tastes as an excuse to eat Pizza and french fries. Maybe confessing the diet-cheater's mentality here will help me to eat salads and never mind his carb intake...
I did drink 3 liters of water yesterday....
Bravo!
and remember one dessert... and I will take a walk this morning. It is the traditional santa-photo with all the kids in my husband's family. My husband can't walk today so I get to go!
Thanks for the support ladies, and you're right, at least I didn't buy three bags of Ms Vickie's Jalapenjo when I passed through the snack aisle... there IT IS... no more deliberately passing through the snack aisle!
I had some cold ham and a couple of tomatoes and diet Hellman's mayo yesterday and I'm going to have a greek salad today and one bagel for breakfast. Okay, half a bagel, then....
daily,
explain how the nuts are worst than the huge bag of chips? ok the portion wasn't the best but nuts are great for you! and it was dessert - not a meal!
and 6 cookies are not so bad... I have had moments where I have gone through 900grams.. a bag full! did you enjoy them? did you share the moment with yourself and taste and appreciate the cookies?
and tommorrow we will try to work on the portions... I will not have 400g of chocolate, only one bar 100g.!
Okay... I got the nutcracker but I also bought Planter's Dry Roasted peanuts in a jar and I have the guilts for using a bowlful as desert.... what a weakling...
