Hi Rose,
It is great to hear that your boyfriend is so supportive! Regarding your question, keep in mind that depression can be related to a wide variety of factors.
The exact causes of depression are unknown, although biological, psychological, and social factors all likely play important roles in the illness.
Most often it's likely that some combinations of biological, psychological, social and environmental factors are involved in the onset of an initial episode of depression. Once a person has had one episode of depression, new stressful events can trigger future episodes. While most people can identify a "trigger" for a depressive episode, it is sometimes difficult or impossible to identify an event or stress. Sometimes depression seems to just happen out of nowhere and come "out of the blue."
I am not sure where you are with the program, but keep working through. You will gain a lot of insight into how you have been feeling and will develop the skills and coping mechanisms to deal with your feelings of depression.
Casey
