Have a question about Depression?

Wildcat, This answer will be different for everyone. Low mood in itself can affect the way you view the world as can anxiety. Environment is also theorized to hold influence on the way we view the world. It's great to hear that you have had some great people in your life to support you but don't forget parents, especially same sex parents hold the most powerful influence over a child. Children can also be influenced through role-modeling and other environmental factors. What kind comments, behaviors, conversations did you remember having with your parents as a child? What about those positive people in your life? What did you learn from them that you hadn't encountered until then? Hope this helps. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator.

hi, Why are did I learn so many negative patterns and ignore the positive ones? Yes I had some difficult parents but I got out of there at 17 and I had a whole bunch of other positive people around me... I do not think I am pessimistic in nature so why do I always see the catastrophies?

Hi Cindy, Your dose may still need to be adjusted in order to obtain a therapeutic level. We encourage you to notify the prescribing physician and to keep working with him/her until you feel "right" again keeping in mind that SSRI' do take a few weeks for the full effect to show. Hi everyone. I'm new to the group and had a couple questions. I have been treating my major depression, anxiety for over a year. Recently I started my new school year and felt good and slowly went off my meds. I soon realized this was not a good idea and soon went back on my medication. My question is after 3 months back on them, I still don't feel "right" I am on cipralex (which is supposed to kick in a couple weeks) and novotrazadone in the evening. Is this because my body is "immune to this" like in the case of say, an antibiotic? How long should I wait for these to work?

Hi Rose, It is great to hear that your boyfriend is so supportive! Regarding your question, keep in mind that depression can be related to a wide variety of factors. The exact causes of depression are unknown, although biological, psychological, and social factors all likely play important roles in the illness. Most often it's likely that some combinations of biological, psychological, social and environmental factors are involved in the onset of an initial episode of depression. Once a person has had one episode of depression, new stressful events can trigger future episodes. While most people can identify a "trigger" for a depressive episode, it is sometimes difficult or impossible to identify an event or stress. Sometimes depression seems to just happen out of nowhere and come "out of the blue." I am not sure where you are with the program, but keep working through. You will gain a lot of insight into how you have been feeling and will develop the skills and coping mechanisms to deal with your feelings of depression.
